Police said there were reports that a vehicle rammed into two Capitol Police officers, who were injured and transported to the hospital. A suspect is in custody, according to police.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Capitol Police officer was killed Friday after a man rammed a car into two officers at a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol and then emerged wielding a knife. It was the second line-of-duty death this year for a department still struggling to heal from the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Video shows the driver of the crashed car emerging with a knife in his hand and starting to run at the pair of officers, Capitol Police Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman told reporters. Authorities shot the suspect, who died at a hospital.

Well, the guy did ram his car through the barricades running over two officers and killing one of them. Then he jumped out of his car and charged at the cops with a knife despite being warned to drop it. Yeah, they shot him, and they were probably black cops. A white guy threatening the cops with an AR-15, yeah, he's dead too.

Well, when I first heard of the attack, a guy ramming his car through a barricade and then lunging at cops with a knife, my first thought was that it was a lone homegrown terrorist of middle eastern origins who sympathized with the likes of ISIS. Others were sure that it was a white supremacist. But, it turned out that it was a black guy who seemed to have been a follower of Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

A white anti-govt fanatic would be the most reasonable guess before we knew for sure, and finding out it was a mentally ill black guy doesn't change the likelihood that the next similar attack will be from a white anti-govt fanatic, and there is no stigma in saying so out loud. It would be good if it were socially acceptable not to have to tip-toe around these things in other cases. The recent spurt of violence against Asians is coming from African-Americans out of proportion to their percent of the population. It's a weird occurrence and screams out for an explanation and at least some suggestions of solutions. But to not face it gets us absolutely nowhere. It seems there should be, on news programs that need to fill 24 hours of "news" a day, at least several segments on Why these attacks are coming from blacks and what can be done about it. Instead the race of the attackers is not only not mentioned but somehow white supremacy is shoehorned in. Problems not admitted to can never be solved.
