QAnon is a new name for old fears. Conspiracy theories have always existed. Your neighbors were being nice because they planned to attack you. There were witches. The People in the next valley poisoned your cows, it wasn't YOUR fault they died. The People Over The Horizon brought disease. That strange guy next door put a curse on your farm.
Yeah, actually some of that was true. Which is why such fears survive. There ARE enemies. But when you start associating imagination for fact, you can't tell which is true. And when you can tell which is true, then EVERYTHING is bad and fearsome. And since YOU are a righteous god-fearing person, everything that goes wrong must be somebody ELSE'S fault. And since just one person can't do SO MUCH harm, there must be several working at it.
So it has to be a planned effort - a conspiracy. And you, just a simple person can't find "them" or stop "them", you have to gather together. Strength In Numbers to fight Strength In Numbers, right?
And if you can't find "them", you need a strong Leader who can. So you give up a little freedom for security. Well worth it to keep self and family safe, right? Family matters. Self matters. Safety matters.
And things go bad. But the Leader says to trust in him, he has a plan, but it may take a while. So you wait and trust. Laws change and they are slightly annoying, but it is for your safety, so you don't object. It is for the safety of your family, too. When the coming crisis occurs, you will be safe.
And one day you are a member of a conspiracy-anti-conspiracy and you don't even realize it.
Never argue with people who type fast and have too much time on their hands...
