Coronavirus spreads. But don't panic! (topical thread)

Coronavirus spreads. But don't panic! (topical thread)
I started exhibiting mild sx today, headache, sore throat, low grade fever, runny nose, malaise.

Had to qualify for a covid test online. Earliest test is Saturday at 3:40PM. No clue what the turn around time for results are.

I've only been out to the market/pharmacy. Followed all of the safety protocol. Have to wait and see.

I think LP jinxed me. Tongue

Georgia’s close behind you.

I’m wondering if Texas or Florida will eventually take over the #1 spot from New York. Maybe then a few GOP types will take this seriously.

I got my results in two days, but I suspect there's considerable variation depending upon supply and demand.

Also look at the deaths per million population... 280.  Plus the cases per million population....15,480.

Contrasting in my state of Oregon we're at  55 deaths per mil. and 2,653 cases per million.  I just got back from Fred Meyers store and everyone was wearing a maks.  I saw no one without a mask.  It's manditory now.

Our corporation promulgated a memo advising us that while we employees must wear masks, we are not, to use their wording, "mask police" -- and we are not to enforce a local judicial edict.

I've talked with the crew and we are continuing to require masking. I'll be forwarding the memo to the anonymous county info line if anyone catches shit from our ignoring the memo, and I've made that plain to my supervisor. I may do it anyway out of spite, or ennui.

I made the mistake of going to the local country store again the other day. Half of the people wore masks, employees had masks hanging over their mouths but not nose and wore no gloves. Lots of trump/pence signs on my way there. Not going again.

The US reported another 61,000 new cases today.

Texas had 11,400 new cases.

But, have no fear, Arizona's Governor Douchebag gave a news conference today and he sent those fucking republiKKKunt "thoughts and prayers" to those who have been afflicted.

Thanks for nothing, asshole.

My business is not the only one subject to the edict, obviously. Even the malcontents in the other stores read the notice at the door and grump back to the truck, though I've seen a few folks still unmasked. It's a community effort, and at least here outside the city, it seems like folks are more on-board. We do have an interest in a customer base that's breathing. Big Grin

Quote:On Thursday, Alabama Senate President Pro Tempore Del Marsh suggested that he wanted more people to get coronavirus — because he thinks America would develop “herd immunity” and reduce the spread enough to protect more vulnerable populations.

“I’m not as concerned so much as the number of cases. In fact, quite honestly, I want to see more people, because we start reaching an immunity the more people have it and get through it,” said Marsh. “I don’t want any deaths, as few as possible, say, I get it, but those people who are susceptible to the disease, especially more serious pre-existing conditions, elderly population, those folks, we need to, you know, do all we can to protect them. But I’m not concerned, I want to make sure that everybody can receive care.”

This fucker can die too.

The assumption that immunity is permanent or long-lasting enough to help is just that: an assumption.

As an aside, his wishy-washy language indicates he knows how risky his suggestion is, and is playing CYA when -- not if -- the blowback happens.

It's almost as if he doesn't understand that more people carrying the virus means more old folks will be exposed to deadly danger, except that he does.

I don't feel a thing, except some anxiety since I was told...

There's an excellent chance that you're a false positive LP. The antibody tests have been notoriously unreliable, especially in field conditions. With a relatively small proportion of the population actually carrying the antibodies you get a lot more false positives than actual positives. Ask what their accuracy is for both lab and field. The second test should clear it up either way,

NPR portrayed him as back-pedaling pretty hard on the reopening. Is that actually the case, or are they exaggerating that?

In short.  I don't think he has a fucking clue what he is doing.

Yes same in central Oregon, at my bi monthly shopping yesterday, everyone was wearing a mask, even at the outdoor markets.  It was very nice to see people following the rules.
I stopped by a sporting goods store looking for some bug netting, and they had a prominent sign asking customers to please follow the governors orders and not give their employees a hard time, and indeed, everyone in there was masked and being very polite.

In a line, I reminded my daughter to stand 6 feet back, and the older lady in front of us said "It's no big deal", and I said something about it being important to learn these new behaviors, and she rolled her eyes (not at me, just in a sort of general way), and said she thought it was all silly.  But, at least she was still following the rules, so it's good to know that whatever they think privately, most people here are still doing what is asked of them.

I saw somewhere that mask wearing in the US as a whole is around 65%, which really isn't bad.  In the UK it's closer to 25%.  I'll have to see if I can find the link to those stats.

•  The death rate in Australia is currently 4 per million population, and 368 cases per million.

•  We have a death rate of 1.18 people per million population in Victoria.

•  The Federal health department is still debating the issue of wearing masks, but they said
yesterday it would not be mandatory, but only recommended—if at all.

Australia had two more deaths yesterday, and there're concerns that's going to rise in our
large metropolitan regions due to their populations' continuing complacency.  High school
kids go back to school on Monday where I live in rural Victoria, but under strict 4 metres
square isolation for each student.

Yeah I know that. I showed high IgM for covid, that means I am peaking in infection. Going for the PCR test now in 1 hour, hopefully just a scare.

Went for the PCR test, the swab they use up your nose, while unpleasant, not painfull does bring tears to my eyes. Then there is a big swab on your mouth, to the back of the thoat. Gag reflexes. Tomorrow or monday I will know. The director needs me for some fucking reason to get to work pronto on monday.

If negative, I need a raise.

Proton Pump Inhibitors and Covid: https://journals.lww.com/ajg/Documents/A...BPART).pdf

"We  found  evidence  of  an  independent,  dose-response relationship  between the use of anti-secretory medications and COVID-19 positivity; individuals taking PPIs twice daily have higher odds for reporting a positive test when compared to those using PPIs up to once daily, and those  taking  the  less  potent H2RAs  are  not at  increased  risk. Further studies  examining  the association between PPIs and COVID-19 are needed."
