You are misunderstanding that summary.  Not too surprising as the language is imprecise.   The "direct" and "indirect" methods involved are measuring physical aspects of variables of the probability function.  These measurements are then used to calculate a wave function.
The wave function is a mathematical description of the measurements.  A wave function cannot be measured as it has no physical existence.

My point has nothing to do with physics, I'm pointing out that my percept of warmth and light are very different. Therefore they cannot be direct percepts of a single existing entity. Whatever that entity is, which is described in physics books, is irrelevant. 

I bet Deepak Chopra couldn't have made a more meaningless statement.

This does not address why that is nonsense. It is explained that when I'm asking you how energy can be 'directly perceived' you cannot give me an object and tell me "the mass you perceive is energy". It is obviously not a direct perception. Non of your examples are direct perceptions of energy. 

The light you perceive is energy.  The heat you feel is energy.  Read the definitions I provided.

That is only one use of simulation.  The simulation is only as good as our understanding of the phenomena being simulated.
