When people ask me if I have a good memory (which I don't, I have to write down everything), I usually say that I have such a good memory that I can even remember things that never even happened.

My aunt would tell us put on lipstick whenever we were flustered or upset.
How that was supposed to help, I never learned. But, I always think of it when I’m in those states.
When you’re dead, you want care anymore.
"Everything is easy for the man who doesn't have to do it himself."
I used that often in my union days when some self-important management asswipe said something stupid.

It probably has to do with helping you calm down by doing something routine, normal or mundane. It's like when I'm anxious about something, I start cleaning the house. Got an email from our health & safety committee today about required training courses, usual H&S awareness training stuff.
But one of the courses is listed as "Workplace Violence & Harassment Training", so I asked the facilitator if we have to bring our own weapons or will they be provided. He was not amused. ![]() Also a few months ago my boss commented "sometimes I don't believe half of what you tell say" I responded " you actually believe half of what I say, I didn't know you were that gullible!" When we had a meeting on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, a co worker asked if he could take notes for future fun. This was funny as he was known to be a joker anyway.
Every time some senior manager got caught chasing his secretary around the desk the IRS' knee-jerk reaction was to insist that the entire work force get sexual harassment training.
I made that observation at a Labor/Management meeting one day. They were not amused. Fuck them.

Mass training implies no single person is at fault. Of course nobody knows who the at-fault parties are. Of course.

Last summer I was asked to look at a deep dig inside a school to tie some new fixtures in. We were doing the work but the boss had written in an exclusion if the general contractor wanted to do the digging for $5800. <way too low IMO>. The meathead general contractor thought he could just rent a machine and do the work. He checked that box on the contract and then realized what it might entail, and I was no asked to "look into it". I get there and the guy started out with some flippant remark along your line of reasoning, like it was no big deal. Rubbed me the wrong way. When I got done assessing the situation I advised against picking up that work, and it was positively delicious to leave that asshole swinging on the hook.
