Trump has told UK newspaper The Telegraph he is strongly
considering pulling the United States out of NATO after it
failed to join the war on Iran, labelling the defence alliance
a "paper tiger" and said removing America from the organisation
was now "beyond reconsideration".

"I was never swayed by NATO," he said.

"I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way."

It is the clearest indication yet that the White House no longer
views Europe as a dependable defence partner, Trump also
singled out the UK's Royal Navy and British Prime Minister
Keir Starmer for criticism.

"You don't even have a navy," Trump told the newspaper.

"You're too old and had aircraft carriers that didn't work."

And on Starmer:

"All Starmer wants is costly windmills that are driving your energy prices through the roof."

Attack on Iran
Quote:DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A channel affiliated with Iranian state television claimed Friday that a U.S. fighter pilot ejected from their aircraft over southwestern Iran.

It was not clear what may have happened to the plane, including whether Iran was claiming it was shot down or there was another issue. If the claim is confirmed, it could lead to yet another dramatic escalation in the war, nearing the end of its fifth week. The U.S. did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

The anchor on the Iranian channel urged residents to hand over any “enemy pilot” to police and promised a reward for anyone who did. The channel is in Kohkilouyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, an intensely rural and mountainous region that spans over 15,500 square kilometers (5,900 square miles).

Forget euphemism, Trump is using unabashed viciousness
in his language against Iran.  Trump, and Hogsbreath, take
pleasure in deploying dysphemism to describe the killing of
Iranians.

On 4 March, Hogsbreath squirmed in pleasure as he described
"death and destruction from the sky all day long" and "we are
punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should
be".

And Trump a week later said, "Watch what happens to these deranged
scumbags today. They’ve been killing innocent people all over the world
for 47 years, and now I, as the 47th President of the United States of
America, am killing them. What a great honor it is to do so!"  and "My
favourite thing is to take the oil in Iran".

Meanwhile, the current landing page of the White House’s website, by
contrast, celebrates Trump’s accomplishments so far in terms of the
finest obfuscation: "Abroad, a doctrine of peace through strength has
secured alliances, ended eight wars, and positioned America as an
indispensable force for global stability
".

What we know so far about rescue of US airman in Iran

The US has rescued the missing crew member of the US F-15 fighter jet which was shot down on Friday over southern Iran.

US President Donald Trump confirmed the rescue on social media on Sunday morning after the US military "pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations" in its history. The officer is "now SAFE and SOUND!" he added.

......

The exact circumstances of the US rescue remain unclear, but one person familiar with the operation described it as a "huge" combat search and rescue mission in southern Iran.

A senior official also told CBS that the CIA played a crucial in the rescue mission by tracking the airman in a mountain crevice and passing his exact location to the Pentagon.

Attack on Iran
Quote:U.S. forces destroyed two of their own transport planes that became stranded at a remote base in Iran during the rescue of a downed F-15E crew member, the New York Times reported Sunday.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and police separately claimed they shot down a U.S. C-130 support aircraft near Isfahan, adding another contested chapter to the most chaotic 48 hours of the five-week war.

The weapons systems officer, a colonel, was rescued by U.S. special forces early Sunday morning local time after hiding for more than 36 hours in the mountains of southwestern Iran with little more than a pistol for defense.

He was flown to Kuwait for treatment of injuries sustained during ejection.

In what the New York Times described as "a final twist," two transport planes designated to carry the commandos and the rescued officer to safety became disabled at a remote base inside Iran.

Rather than risk the aircraft, which contained sensitive equipment, falling into Iranian hands, commanders ordered them destroyed and flew in three replacement aircraft to extract all U.S. military personnel.

The destruction of the aircraft on enemy soil represents a significant operational complication that underscores the extreme risks of conducting sustained operations deep inside Iranian territory.

CBS News confirmed that U.S. commandos engaged in a firefight with Iranian troops as they closed in on the stranded officer. U.S. attack aircraft dropped bombs and opened fire on Iranian convoys approaching the area.

"The downed officer was equipped with a beacon and an encrypted communication device for coordinating with rescue forces, but had only a handgun for self-defense while hiding in the terrain," two officials told CBS News.

They cleared the area of "military aged males" within 3km of the pilot using reapers.

Look at those pics ... how many "military aged males" do you think live there? We got a fellow USAF guy out, I'm good.

I don't think that changes my mind about the rescue mission. Your mileage apparently varies.

OFC not, but it does change what your tax dollars were spent on, because this gang always finds some way to shoot crooked. They applied the boat murder theory to a rescue mission.

I have problems with it if they're killing people indiscriminately to rescue a single pilot. I have to wonder how those drone strikes distinguish between combatants and civilians, much less males and females. My guess would be that they shot a few people that were obviously armed and overhyped it into this nonsense of sterilizing everything within a 3 mile radius.

Right. That's in line with the hyperbolic rhetoric with this administration.

Exactly, looking at those pictures, that's not farmland or urban environment, doesn't look like much population density at all, and I'd think it's a safe assumption that people on the ground are probably Iranian search parties.

Exactly... Australian estimates put the overall cost of the destruction
or abandonment of US military aircraft and the rescue of the two airmen
at AU$430 to AU$440 million. Poured into a war chest that no American
wants.

According to Reuters 5 April, the conflict has killed 13 US military service
members, with more than 300 wounded.

But... Trump claims "the United States Military pulled off one of the most
daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History". As a draft dodger,
I'm sure he's more than cognisant of US military history, being as he worked
so assiduously to avoid being a part of it for several years in the late 1960s.

After our government sold him a site of special scientific interest to turn into a golf course Angry they then allowed wind turbines to be put up out at sea which spoiled the view.

He's been raging about 'windmills' ever since. A bit like Don Quixote now I think about it.

By the way, one of my uncles worked on the first windmills in the Altamont. He ran Fayette Manufacturing in the 80s. But guess what? He likes Trump now. For some reason. That tanked any respect I had for him. Well that and his insistence we should nuke Iran.
