Attack on Iran
Quote:The United States and Israel on Saturday launched strikes on Iran after weeks of threats from President Trump, who called for regime change in Tehran and warned of American casualties in a video posted online shortly after the attacks began.
“A short time ago, the United States military began major combat operations in Iran,” Trump said in a video posted to Truth Social at 2:30 a.m. “Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people.”

Attack on Iran
Quote:Several senior commanders of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and political officials were killed during recent United States and Israeli military strikes, according to a source close to Iran’s political establishment cited by Reuters national security correspondent Phil Stewart.
The reported deaths represent one of the clearest indications so far that the joint strikes targeted senior leadership structures connected to Iran’s military and political apparatus, suggesting operations aimed at degrading command-level capabilities rather than focusing solely on infrastructure.
Stewart reported that an Iranian source familiar with the country’s leadership confirmed that “several senior Revolutionary Guards commanders and political officials” were killed in the attacks. The report did not specify the identities of those killed or provide exact locations where the strikes occurred.

And he tried to tell us Biden would get us into an effen war! Of course, he's doing this without any congressional permission. I'm so ANGRY, I want to spit. How many American soldiers are now going to die because this President is a crazy Loon?

I am always more concerned about the civilians in times like these. It's the soldier's choice to be involved in a conflict or not generally, while the civilians have much less choice.

Attack on Iran
Australia's government expressed support for the United States
"acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon" after
the US launched a daytime attack on the Middle Eastern nation.
PM Anthony Albanese said in a joint statement with two senior
ministers that the international community had been clear that
the Iranian regime could never be allowed to develop nuclear
weapons, saying Australia "stood with the brave people of Iran
in their struggle against oppression".

It's the soldier's choice to enlist. We knew going in that we may be asked to fight, kill, and die. We trusted our leadership to not use our lives casually. I feel most sorry for the civilians, but calling this the "soldier's choice" is childishly myopic. We chose to serve our country. Our country chose to misspend our trust. Get it right.

Yes. Trump is a past master of misdirection, obfuscation,

Attack on Iran
One of the major consequences of these attacks will, I think, be the breakdown of the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement. Iran has already attacked several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia.
Quote:Saudi Arabia said Iranian attacks targeted the capital city of Riyadh and the Eastern Province. The Kingdom said it had successfully intercepted Iranian attacks.
In a statement on X, the Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned Iranian strikes on its territory, calling them unjustified because the Kingdom had affirmed it would not allow its airspace to be used for any U.S. or Israeli attacks against the country.
“These attacks cannot be justified under any pretext or in any way whatsoever, and they came despite the Iranian authorities’ knowledge that the Kingdom had affirmed it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used to target Iran,” the statement read.

Ok, still harder to have empathy for the soldiers. But that's my opinion.

I agree that the civilians are getting the shittiest end of the stick. But treating us like a monolithic hive mind is puerile, and that's my opinion.

And it's soldiers who allow you to keep your opinion. "A few years ago" the British government ordered Americans to house their troops and feed them at no cost to the Crown.

When members of the armed forces sign up, they know full well
what their responsibilities will be as far as obeying lawful commands
and wherever their potential regions of deployment could be.
Wherever they ultimately find themselves has little to do with their
individual morals or ethics.
Many of the Aussie soldiers who went to Vietnam expressed their
dislike of LBJ's request for them to be there, fighting an "enemy" in
a country they had no personal animosity towards. Just like the US
soldiers etc attacking Iran today.
It's unfair to blame any or all soldiers for what they're doing or why,
or why they’re there where they find themselves. You need to be
directing your "blame" at the draft-dodger you elected who's sent
them there.

Ok, but there's a disconnect here. They get to sign up. The civilians who die in the conflicts do not get to sign up. That's all I'm trying to say.

If more civilians had been willing to risk their asses fewer civilians might have died.
Rough numbers I don't count every casualty after interrogating them.

Attack on Iran
Iran reports 201 killed and 747 wounded.
Flight tracking sources indicate USAF KC-135 tankers orbiting the Strait of Gibraltar. This implies further deployments of aircraft, and perhaps B-2 strikes tonight. Speaking of B-2s, we only have 19 operational, and the type carries a 54% mission-ready rate, meaning that 10 or so might be available for a hypothetical strike.

Attack on Iran
Quote:A wire report from Reuters, citing an official from the European Union-led Operation Aspides, says that vessels have started “receiving VHF [radio] transmission from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards saying ‘no ship is allowed to pass the Strait of Hormuz.'” Online ship tracking data shows some indications that traffic through the Strait may be slowing, but that it has not yet stopped. Iran has regularly threatened to close this highly strategic waterway in response to a major crisis.TWZ has delved into Iran’s ability to follow through on that threat, as well as the potential ramifications of doing so, in detail in the past.

Quote:Iranian state media has said that dozens of students were killed and wounded when a primary school for girls in Minab in southwestern Iran was hit. The school is reportedly close to an IRGC facility.

There's a spectrum of responses from the Arab nations, but all are reiterating the right to defend or retaliate to Iranian attacks. A couple of them are urging restraint, Saudi is offering help to any nation needing it for self-defense, etc.
