I feel that dating someone younger is problematic
Whenever I've seen someone dating someone younger I always ask myself, what on earth do they even talk about? What could they possibly have in common? I don't understand why someone would want to be with someone considerably younger. What could possibly be the appeal of that?

Does anyone else find it weird or do you think it's ok? I just don't see how someone would feel the need to do that.

I'm the same age as my wife and we have nothing in common apart from the kids.
Conversation is overrated.

Hell, I’m older than my husband.
People are attracted to each other because of a variety of reasons. A coworker married a man 20 years her senior because she likes older men and square dancing…it’s how they met. Another coworker had a husband 20 years younger than herself…it only lasted 22 years before divorce. Peoples minds aren’t necessarily the same age as their bodies. Some men like younger women because it makes them feel younger, even if they are less or more mature than the other. We’re human. We’re complex.

When you get to be my age it is hard to find anyone older.

Younger is easier....but my wife would probably complain about it.

I feel that dating someone younger is problematic
In my forties I dated for a short time a gal young enough to be my daughter. It didn't work. Maybe she didn't understand me, or maybe I didn't understand her. We didn't share the same tastes -- except Tom Petty and Monet -- and certainly didn't have the same outlook. We split on friendly terms and indeed I did recording sessions for her boyfriend after we split.

I guess as an older person I enjoy and encourage
dialogue with younger people in order to keep a
finger on what's happening at society's ground zero.

As far as dating a younger person, I think the age
difference (either way) has a changing relevance
dependent on each of the individual's ages.

For (say) a 30-year-old man to be dating a (say)
18-year-old girl I'd be thinking the relationship
is far less secure—in the longer term—than say
a 65-year-old man dating a 52-year-old woman.

I think young women mature mentally earlier in social matters than young men do. So it seems a bit natural that they prefer slightly older men. It just takes the guys a bit longer to be equals for a solid relationship.

Before I met my wife I was in a relationship with an older woman and she taught me a thing or two...

Vacuuming and ironing being the main one's.

Then don't date someone younger.

Throughout history it has been considered perfectly normal for a man to marry a considerably younger woman. It's only in the last few decades that it has become fashionable to think that it's somehow weird or inappropriate. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm 45 and I'm with a woman who is 22 and we talk about all kinds of things and have plenty in common as well as differences which make us compatible. I'm attracted to her because she's beautiful and youthful, and presumably she likes certain things about me. She's very slim and much shorter than me as well, and she looks younger than she is, which creates more of a contrast, and I quite like it. I do not foresee the need for little blue pills, if you catch my drift.

I feel that dating anyone is problematic. I also feel that going on holiday is problematic. In fact, virtually every "ambitious" endeavour has its problems. That's life.

If the objective of a relationship is perky breasts and 100% agreement, disappointment is inevitable. You aren't looking for a person, but a pleasure robot.

IMO the real problem with large age differences, particularly where the man is older, is unhealthy power imbalances -- economically, socially, and experientially, the weaker party is ripe for exploitation and abuse, even if the initial intent for it isn't there.

Yes such relationships CAN and sometimes DO work (if the younger person is an unusually self-possessed / wise / mature / old soul and thus an adequate match for the older person) but most often do not. Even then, no amount of maturity totally makes up for limited experience and having rather different needs due to being in a different place in the life journey.
