Trump Blames California’s Governoror for Wildfires

Trump Blames California’s Governoror for Wildfires
President-elect Donald Trump has blamed California’s Democratic
governor for the failure to contain fires engulfing parts of the Los
Angeles area, turning a still-evolving natural disaster into a political
opportunity and accusing the state’s Democratic government of
letting environmental policies run amok.

In a post on his social media site, Trump mocked  Gavin Newsom,
calling him "incompetent... he wanted to protect an essentially
worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn’t work!),
but didn’t care about the people of California" Trump wrote on Truth
Social. "Now the ultimate price is being paid".

The post was vintage Trump, who rarely passes up an opportunity to
blame natural disasters on his political enemies
.  In his social media
post, he called the governor "Gavin Newscum".  "He is the blame for this.
On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true
disaster!"

Firefighting planes were grounded as the fires erupted, but officials confirmed
that was because of high winds and smoke—not because of a lack of water.

—And this is The Man who'll shortly be in charge of all the US
military, despite being a draft-dodger.    Fuck me sideways!

RIP USA

Typical chump. It'll be a day of righteous celebration in our house when he shuffles off this mortal coil! Hopefully really soon.

Yes but it’s already been stated he won’t receive a prison sentence.  I doubt he’ll even get an ankle monitor.  It will, however, make him officially a felon.  Trump has asked the Supreme Court to intervene and delay this…again, and again and again.

I’ll believe it when it actually happens.  I may even make some popcorn…

SCOTUS may yet weigh in tonight, unfortunately.

As for the Palisades fire, I'm ironically amused about all the movie people slamming the LA mayor for her failures vis infrastructure. Trim your shrubbery, people, and don't blame the current mayor for the failure of her legion of predecessors who haven't done anything about it, either. #stupidrichfucks

Yes, but now we know that Roberts and Barrett might be problems for Trump in some cases. That's better than I expected.

Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh are nearly beyond hope of apolitical decision-making. Most seemingly politically-neutral legal experts said there was no basis for supporting Trump's claim that a President-Elect should have the immunity of an inaugurated President.

Worse, at least Thomas and Alito are likely to resign after Trump takes office so that he can appoint much younger and equally conservative Justices in their place to serve maybe 30+ years. Thomas has been ruining established legal theory for 30 years and Ailto for 16. They are 74 and 72, respectively.

If they retired under Trump, they would become far more wealthy than they are now (even without the benefits they unethically get from their jobs now.

I agree. Rich people who have fire-tempting landscaping from edge to edge and right to their front doors in a fire zone probably deserve it in some way.

On one hand, no-one deserves to have their house burned down. But on the other hand, I bet they are over-insured and some will actually make a profit. Depends on how much they have keepsakes they would miss.

Most victims of these horrible urban wildfires (and I never thought I would type "urban wildfires") have lost so much in personal keepsakes. Photos, drafts of books they were writing, pets, furniture from their parents and grandparents, family art, etc. Many who thought they were safe had to suddenly flee with literally the clothes they were wearing. It is just so horribly tragic.

So I was thinking what I would do. Say a serious fire was 30 miles away. I would immediately collect the cats into carriers. Then throw my computer into a box and put all my financial files and savings bonds in there too. Ditto all camping equipment.

Then drive away before others see the flames at 10 miles. I can always come back. But I wouldn't waste a minute trying to save the house by hosing it. If it all went up in smoke, I would still be somewhere else, alive, and with the things to get along.

Don't say "you'll hit traffic". I would be among the first out. First away, first safest.

Ha! Remember Trump is the one who suggested that proper forest management should involve having someone rake all the leaves and such from the forest floor. I'd love to see someone give him a rake and drop him into the middle of the forest so he could give it a try.

Sad that people lost their lives and their homes.

My cousin lives in LA. Her area is currently safe. Two pairs of friends of hers are now rooming with her (she has the room) as they were in mandatory evacuation areas. One pair of those friends I met and visited their beautiful home in Topanga valley. The property was inherited from her parents and sits on a hillside. They also have a huge garage with an irreplaceable collection of older bicycles and antique cars. So far, their houses hasn’t burned down but, the fire is close. I have pictures of their home, their amazing view and the garage that’s a step back in time with all the memorabilia and bikes and cars. One picture is another cousin and I sitting in a classic T-bird.

While this couple is property wealthy, they aren’t the super rich…they just inherited an area that became filthy rich and if they’re lose their home, they’ll never be able to rebuild what they had, much less replace the valuable collectables even if they are insured to the hilt.

However, they are safe…stressed, but safe.

On the news they said people were abandoning their cars to flee the oncoming fire. They showed video of a bulldozer just pushing cars off the road to make way.

They even tried to get the message out to leave your keys in the car if you must abandon it…something very few would likely do…even if they heard the message.

She's not the mayor of LA County, only of the city. So far there aren't even any fires there.

OTOH she didn't do herself any favors, standing mutely when asked about the topic. Really weird response.

The city limits are bigger than you think. If there aren't any fires in "LA", that makes the bitching and questioning even worse. If you're referring to her not answering the reporter who was badgering her, I'd guess she was jet-lagged from flying 1/3 of the way around the world. If he was lucky and asking me those questions, I'd tell him I'd get back to him. He thinks he's "asking hard questions", I think he's an asshole. NB: I am not living in LA City OR LA County. She wasn't even in the country when the fires started. Not her fault.

The BBC is publishing "fact check" pages on the claims and counter
claims about who's to blame for the lack of firefighting resources,
and water, in California.

Quote:Trump said CA Governor Newsom "refused to sign the
water restoration declaration put before him that would
have allowed millions of gallons of water" to put out the fires.

The governor's press office issued a statement in response, saying:
"There is no such document as the water restoration declaration—that
is pure fiction."

Jeffrey Mount, senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California's
Water Policy Center, said: "The federal government does not deliver
water from northern California to southern California. While efforts to
save Delta smelt, along with salmon and steelhead trout, do reduce
the amount of water that is moved from northern California by the
state at certain times, it has no bearing on the current availability
of water for fire-fighting
."

Quote:Trump has also said that there was "no water for fire hydrants".

In Pasadena, Fire Chief Chad Augustin said the area experienced a short
period of time where pressure was low on a small amount of hydrants.
All issues had been resolved, he added.  "There are very localised incidents
of this unfolding where the fire hydrants have had insufficient water
pressure for firefighters to use them, but that's not because LA is running
out of water," says Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the UoC.

These types of early, bare-faced lies from Trump—before he's even in the
Oval Office—are disturbingly indicative of the flood of future blatant lies
from the mouth of this arrogant arsewipe over the next four years.

The independent media (is there such a thing in the US?) will have to be
super, super vigilant in their reporting—and also vigorously investigating
Trump's each and every utterance.   And it's gonna be a tiring process.

Which here in Australia immediately null
and voids one's vehicle insurance.

It's also illegal here to leave your keys in
an unattended vehicle if you're gonna be
further away than 10 metres.      Sad

We still have some. Unfortunately, all the big names are either rightwing mouthpieces or ignored by many. The truth is really getting hard to find and you have to want to find it. Sadly, most Americans just watch Fox News and take it as gospel truth. It’s why so many were completely ignorant about their vote choices. It was more important that Trump “tells it like it is” and Harris cackles when she laughs.
