New Apologetics Book: 25 Reasons to be Christian.
Hi all, I've written a new Apologetics book: "Why I believe in Lord Jesus Christ: 25 Reasons to be Christian". Posting the Table of Contents below to spur a discussion. The book makes a cumulative case for the Truth of Christianity, and we can debate the book as a whole or topic by topic. God Bless.

Not necessarily, there are Christian presses that publish this slop to reinforce and reassure believers by ginning up some pseudo-philosophy. It's a good business apparently.

Also, who wants to bet this newcomer is the same guy that was banned for spamming the forum last week?

Publishers are a famous publishing company. I can tell you the exact details by PM if anyone asks.

Here's an excerpt from Chapter 1, 25 Quotes about the Greatness of Jesus Christ.

And I have MacDonald's impressive 4-volume work on Mimesis Criticism.

Oh dear.....just.....oh dear.

In the words of that great philosopher Shania Twain......that don't impress me much.

I shall be ignoring this clown who somehow thinks that he can publicize his "book" on an atheist forum while simultaneously suggesting the name of his publisher should remain confidential. He's also been banned before for trying to promote his "book".

Indeed, and proselytizing. His previous offense.

Christian apologetics publishers lap this crap up, I don't doubt that he has a publisher. He probably also has a ghostwriter had at work trying to make his book readable for the target market.

This dude is disingenuous. Isn't prosetylising and self promotion against the rules? At least I thought it was.

It is.

I'm thinking next time I might purge him like a spammer and delete all his posts as well.

I see he got the ban hammer…shucks…

Shit Christian posters like this are either trying to sell something we don’t want, scoring Jesus points or hoping we’ll suspend our disbelief in order to have a “lively” discussion.

Good bye!

I told you "there will be socks". I sometimes hate when i am right. Its also quite funny how he really is a low effort 1/10 proselytizer. He didnt even tried to hide his identity.....or still completely lacks self awareness.....yeah, its the latter. Big Grin

People like this abound in many spheres. One time I met a guy who was convinced that he was the next Hemingway. He had self-published on Lulu.com so I went and looked at this Great American Novel (IIRC he actually had 2 or 3 of them). Turns out he could not come up with good book titles or synopses, much less readable prose or believable characters. I could have done better in my sleep, and I'm no fiction author.

In the past 20 years, the barriers to publishing (for some given value of publishing) have come way down, such that people with big dreams (or delusions of grandeur) can technically call themselves published authors. But there's no substitute for the marketing machine behind an actual publisher. My books were published in the early 1990s and while they were not financially worthwhile for me to do, (a runaway best seller in the computer field is 20,000 copies; you seldom see much income apart from the advance) they opened doors for me. One day I'm a Published Author, and people who didn't know I existed yesterday are calling me with offers. That led to a stint as technical editor for a monthly for a few years, which in turn opened other doors ... it was way better than a college degree in terms of people taking me seriously [shrug]. So I see the motivation of wannabe authors, but the reality is, most conventionally published authors stumble into it like I did, and even then you have to actually be able to write.

Ironically, if I had time on my hands and a book wanting to shoot out of my fingers these days, I might publish it someplace like LuLu just for something to do and could probably make more than a few thousand in royalties that would be the case with a regular publisher -- and minus the speaking obligations (for tech books, they really expect you to do a lot of the promotion yourself). Wouldn't do any worse, likely. But to build a career and identity around writing, you need the backing of a publisher.

Be wary, history would indicate that it will reincarnate.

I bet not this slop in particular.
