In the ER for sever gird, ugh!

In the ER for sever gird, ugh!
Gird so bad it makes me vomit every time I lay down. Could not sleep, vomited 5 times in less than 12 hours; it's the middle of the night so ER is the only option.

They gave me medicine to numb my vocal cords and mouth and tongue and throat; makes it feel like I'm trying to swallow a soft dinner roll.

LOL... that acronym was a newbie for me; had
to check in with Dr. Google.

Common symptoms include:

•  A burning sensation in the chest, often called heartburn.
Heartburn usually happens after eating and might be worse
at night or while lying down.

•  Backwash of food or sour liquid in the throat.

•  Upper belly or chest pain.

•  Trouble swallowing, called dysphagia.

•  Sensation of a lump in the throat.

Glad you're feeling better mate.         Thumbs Up

Took my first dose of the new medicine.

Up all night, minus three hours.

Resting in a cafe.

The gird is so bad I have real difficulty sleeping. Throwing up when I wake up.

I feel fine for now; not sure what will happen when I try to go to bed..............

Try sleeping sitting up, or at  least with your head/chest elevated. It's a common thing for people with GERD (not GIRD). Either in a chair or in bed propped up with pillows.

Edit: Cafe? Drinking coffee is not the best idea when you're having an episode.

Thank you for the advice.

(I only had plain water at the cafe.)

I finally got sleep in me after two doses of the medication.

Ugh........

Sorry about the misspelling. I probably won't learn though -- I can be stubborn like that.... ) :

I'll see an endoscopic specialist in a few months, and should be cured either by medication they can prescribe afterward, or surgery.

I know all this may seem petty; but it's very severe symptomatically for me. I got very little sleep the last few days and have been throwing up.

No throw up today! YAY! I woke up without having to rush to the bathroom! Phew!

I honestly might have been sent to the ER anyway, had I found myself able to wait till morning; by the time I decided to go, I was throwing up from SITTING UP too. But standing reveled symptoms. So, yeah; my doctor might have scent me to the ER anyway.

I do feel very shame-faced about it all, though.

Thanks everyone for taking interest in my little problems; it's nice to see people care : )

For goodness sake!  GERD isn’t some minor splinter in your finger.  I’m glad you went to the ER and absolutely follow up with the scope and the ENDO.  Protracted vomiting is a serious condition and the reason for it needs to be diagnosed.  You did exactly what you should have done! Now on to diagnosing the reasons!  Heart

I'm not all that surprised that you had an episode. Stress can also be a contributing factor, consider the timing with the bus ride.

I very much hope you can finally banish any feeling of embarrassment for being sick.  That alone can impede cure.  Our culture is far too much in thrall to the childish notion that vigorous health is normal.  Ailment is what's normal, usually temporary, and thinking it's abnormal makes it harder to treat and to live with while healing progresses.  I hope you get well soon.

A lot of people do care about others mate—even
invisible "friends" on a forum.

Has your doctor discussed the possibility of a hiatus hernia?

Some if its symptoms mirror what you describe...

• Heartburn.
• Backward flow of swallowed food or liquids into the mouth.

• Backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus, called acid reflux.
• Trouble swallowing.

• Vomiting.
• Chest or abdominal pain.

Yeah. That's what the surgury would be for, if that is the problem. Hoping i just have a long-suffering viral infection; a powerful antimicrobial cocktail would be all i need. here's hoping [fingers crossed]

Sorry to hear of your trouble Will that's miserable. I found something that really worked for me and that was stem/crystallized ginger, pleasant to take and one of the few "folk cures" that actually works. Of course it could always be the placebo effect but what the heck if it helps?

Update:

I was diagnosed with delayed gastric emptying, a symptom of ill-controlled diabetes.

Medicine will treat it, not cure it.

I've lost nearly 50 pounds, and that has helped too. Not thrown-up very much, or very often, these last 5 months.

GERD also a potential side effect of the tirzepitide you're taking.

Kudos on the weight loss.

Yes, that's true.... But in my case, I had gerd for years before starting my GLP1, and it was at it's worst just before starting the meds. Actually, I found that my gerd improved on the GLP1, because I was eating less.

Thank you for completing my weeeeeeight looooooss : D

Still more to go. I was morbidly obese -- now, I'm just slightly over the line of morbid obesity. Progress!
