Boss Moves in Atheist Debates
OK, so I was watching an Atheist Debate on YouTube, between an American and a European.
And the first thing that I noticed was how the American immediate pressed his Home Court Advantage to put the European on the defensive.
That was a Boss Move!
Sure, the American got the exact coordinates of the center of the world wrong, but let's get real. Dude is an astrophysicist or something like that. (Certainly not a Historian or an Anthropologist, who might give you a better approximation.) In his culture, he probably thinks that being a couple of light-years off is just experimental error. And besides, he's just another atheist like the rest of us. It's not like he has a direct line to any spiritual beings or something. (And his line certainly isn't ringing off the hook whenever there's a soccer game!)
But he got the frickin' continent right! That's pretty impressive for an astrophysicist, when you think about it.
That European probably thinks that the center of the world is in Europe. (The Vatican, perhaps?)
He was wrong.
The center of the world is here in America.
(And I just happen to know the coordinates of the center of the world on google earth, by the way, but that's another matter. You know what they say: "Don't use coordinates unless somebody holds a pickle to your ear.")
Go Team!!!

By the way, for those who have never heard of Cali.
Please keep this in mind.
While New York may be the capitol of the world, and Paris may be the city of lights, Cali is a branch of heaven!

@ Cavebear
@ Minimalist
Your move.
There's no shame in conceding, but if you hold a pickle to my head, I might just give you the coordinates on google earth...lol.
In my culture, there's a protocol for this sort of thing.

The settlement of Bali, Colombia, pop. 2.2M has recently been discovered to exhibit a new cultural habit only possible within the last decade or so - its inhabitants interact and communicate exclusively by finding and displaying you tube videos to speak for them. It has elevated the "mobile" from personal appliance to indispensable anatomical appendage, putting measurable pressure on semi-conductor factories to incorporate hospitals and clinics in their customer support infrastructure. You tube shares on international markets are on par with industry giants such as Coca Cola and Hong Kong Baubles Ltd.
I'd post a you tube video but they appear to have been all used up.

The center of the world is not "Bali", any more than it is Cali.
Do you have the coordinates for the center of the world or do you not?
And yes, I'm holding a pickle to your head.

The geographical center of Earth is not in America. It as been calculated and confirmed in 2003 to be in central Turkey. That's of course by using the internationally recognized and adopted Winkel triple projection map model.

This is cultural.
And your culture may differ on this.
I have no doubt that you have Historical and Anthropological references for your culture's coordinates as well. (As I will no doubt see.)
This discussion could get very interesting.

Not really no. As mentioned before the Winkel triple projection map model is internationally recognized and used so it transcend all cultures and the rest is good old mathematics which also transcend cultures. You might be confusing the concept geographical center of the Earth with the cultural and mythological concept of Axis Mundi. These are two different things. In the case of Axis Mundi, there isn't one center of the world, there are many as they vary from culture to culture. There is also the joke concept of "center of the world" which is a classic tourist trap/practical joke that uses the fact that the Earth is largely as sphere (it's not a perfect sphere, but close from it) to basically declare some random place on it's surface as the center which is technically correct.

I'm sorry but the content of this thread is most peculiar. I personally lost a lot of respect for Richard Dawkins when he went off on a tangent about how the X Files encouraged and fostered superstitious thinking... There's a reason it's called science fiction Richard FFS.

Right at the beginning.
But it's not really in Florida.
Of course, there's no reason for him to know that.
Hell, I'd never even heard about it myself until a little more than a quarter century ago.

He doesn't have the coordinates, but I do.
Maybe I should send the coordinates to him just to see his reaction.
He might get a real kick out of it.

He didn't have to give the coordinates. They were already there.

But they're the wrong coordinates, although well within the experimental error to be expected from any astrophysicist.
Besides, atheists aren't allowed to make jokes, are we?

Center of the world, center of the universe, center of the cosmos, center of the multiverse.
We can quibble all we want. It was still a Boss Move by the American.
Did you notice that the European was forced to agree? (And bringing up Brexit would just be another quibble.)

No big deal.
There were already there. (Hence no coordinates necessary. Hell, I just found them on Wikipedia.)
But they weren't at the center of the world.
I just happen to know where the center of the world actually is, that's all.
I've known that for a little more than a quarter century, but it wasn't until we first got an i-phone that I was able actually see it in music videos and documentaries and to find the coordinates on Google Earth.
It's science and technology that enabled me to find the coordinates.
This is getting a little tedious, though.
