Whoops.

Quote:Mexico church: Many trapped after Tamaulipas roof collapse

Many people are believed trapped under rubble after a church roof collapsed in Mexico, media reports say.
Several people were injured in the collapse of Santa Cruz church in Ciudad Madero in the coastal state of Tamaulipas. There are reports of fatalities.
The roof is said to have fallen in during a baptism at an afternoon mass.

Apparently this god asshole can't overcome shitty building codes.

It's not clear to me why anybody would think this is funny.

That may be a cultural thing.

In some cultures, this would not be considered as funny.

Perhaps it is worth examining what it is about our own culture that finds things like this funny.

It's not funny - it's ironic. That's kind of the point here.  It's also Christians being hypocritical. They believe god saves them from disasters when a flood or fire destroys someone elses house but they don't blame their god when their own house is torn up by a tornado and kills their child.  Their god only gets credit for good things, not bad stuff. It's and example of cognative dissonance.

It's the claim that god is omnipotent (having unlimited power; able to do anything {google}) yet won't aid the beings he is suppose to have created.

It seems to have no problem letting them be destroyed, not even intervene when they unjustly suffer. The only rational conclusion is that this god does not exist or is devoid of compassion. And ironically still insists on being worshiped. Panic

Angry White American Man

A song in memory of Deah Barakat, 23, Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and Razan Abu-Salha, 19, killed on Tuesday, February 10th, 2015 by a deranged man.  The particular form of derangement suffered by the killer, Craig Stephen Hicks, is a sort of anti-theist variation of the "disenfranchised white American male with illusions of grandeur" syndrome, and this is what I'm attempting to explore in this composition.

Lyrics:

He was 46 years old, he had 2 parking places
He got angry if one of the residents took one of the visitor spaces
In the apartment complex that might provide one little clue
That this middle-aged man had accomplished little that he set out to do
He spewed anger at all of his neighbors and he hated religion so much
Maybe that's why he moved to the Bible Belt, because hatred is such a good crutch

He spewed anger about all religions with his back against the wall
Why stop at just hating one of them when you can just hate them all
Another angry white American man with a gun
Another angry white American man

He was 46 years old, he didn't live among his peers
Neighbors mostly younger by about 24 years
Neighbors from all over, some in religious dress
But what in hell the man was thinking, we can only try to guess

He was 46 years old, his neighbors had a meeting last year
To talk over what they might do about this man they feared
He carried a loaded pistol, no telling what might inspire
Him to pull it out one day and fire, fire, fire

OK, you don't like white people. What else do you have in your quiver, for our enlightenment? BTW, the large font just makes you look stupid and angry. Girl_yes2

We get you Pyth. We're with you 100 %. We're just so acculturated to all this, it's laugh or cry. We're sick of crying. So we laugh. I personally am very glad you're here. Almost all the "thank you Jesus" examples you present I have never heard of. There are many guests that pass through here every day .... and they also would never have heard of a lot of what you post. Stay with us. You're a valuable new member. We should re-start the "Thank You Jesus" thread for all the shit that happens every day, .... if there were a god, could have been stopped.

There is a lot to question about Pythagorean's theistic/social beliefs. But he seems to know some science stuff, so I'm willing to give him some attention for now.

I had a co-worker once who was very good at understanding personal and general social issues and gave sensible advice. But when it came to human evolution (it was a very open office space with discussions among people who could actually see each other), eventually, she would always ask where Adam and Eve came in... Many people are good in one subject and utterly ignorant in others.

Pythagorean might be like that...

I tend to want to give people the benefits of doubts but, I see a bunch of YouTube videos, often in Spanish and very little actual conversation. I don’t like videos used to explain someone’s position or views…I prefer actual conversations. I want to know what they actually think, not some video that I rarely watch. So, it’s probably my bad, but it’s how I view it.

It's funny because their invisible, intangible, all powerful umbrella didn't protect them from the rain.

Some would say "What's the harm in believing, even if it's not true ?"

The harm is actual harm. People get hurt and some get killed, all because they believed that they would be protected by something that they believed was real.

Invisible, intangible, all powerful umbrellas are not real. They will not protect you from the rain.
If you saw people out in the rain and they were dumbfounded and couldn't understand why they were getting wet, as they held up an empty hand that they believed contained an invisible, intangible, all powerful umbrella, you too might laugh.

No matter how much you might tell them that their hands are empty, they choose to believe that the invisible, intangible, all powerful umbrella is real.
And they have to make up excuses for why the rain is making them wet.

All of this delusion I find funny.
The fact that people died because of their delusion isn't
Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

No, I agree that videos don't replace discussion. If you can't explain something in your own words, you are either taking a cheap shortcut or lack personal thought.

Not that I don't like a clever visual meme now and then...
