AAAND it's the day after the rapture and now the countdown is to the end of the 23rd. No reports of empty churches today. Oh well.

I wonder if folk will ever give up predicting dates for rapture/s. It just makes them look a bit silly.
I also wonder if it was a genuine disappointment for them when it didn't happen.

It absolutely devastated Harold Camping and most of his followers, who'd sold their homes and given the proceeds to Camping's ministry.  Camping died two years later, at age 92, but the psychological toll of having been wrong severely affected him and likely killed him before he would have otherwise expired.

There should be a law of some kind that says if you're able to convince people the world will end, then, just as the cigarette manufacturers are required to post large warnings on their products, the story of Harold Camping must accompany any such foretelling.  It's one thing to be the head of a family and believe nonsense like that. and totally another to be the head of a family and give all your wealth and income to it, leaving your children utterly destitute afterward.

I don’t know…I find it amusing when they fail. They tend to lose followers from it and that’s enjoyable, while others double down and rework the dates. The Jehovah Witnesses stopped making definite deadlines when they got tired of looking like fools. I think now just say “soon”. They got tired of losing members.

Honestly, if certain churches continue claiming dates for Armageddon, the atheists should start having watch parties to add to the humiliation. That would be fun!
