Lopodunum/Ladenburg
Located halfway between Mannheim and Heidelberg
Earliest settlements ca. 3000BC. By 500BC it is a Celtic settlement. Trajan makes it a Roman city by 100AD. 1886: Carl Benz takes the first ride in a motor vehicle. He moves here with his wife Bertha and founds his car manufacturing company. Both die here later (Bertha in 1944 at the age of 95). Unfortunately i wasnt able to visit the Benz museum.

Medieval city wall from 1200 (blue tablets). Build in part with stones from the Roman city wall.
Remains of Roman city wall (red table)
What blew (and it still is!) my mind is this:
Imagine you are the commoner building this wall with Roman stones in 1200. Looking forward in time its is *only* 800 years to the age of space travel, but looking back it is 1100 years since the Romans build their city wall.

Church with wing that dates back to the Carolingians in the 9th century (by which the city was already 800 years old!

I find it nice, so many medieval buildings actually seem to have survived. At least it seems they aren't replicas as in so many other German cities and villages destroyed by war.
