The researchers believe that antibiotic resistance evolved in Staphylococcus aureus as an adaptation to having to exist side-by-side on the skin of hedgehogs with the fungus Trichophyton erinacei, which produces its own antibiotics. 

Resistant Staphylococcus aureus has been around since before we discovered penicillin!
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Well, the hedgehogs obviously don't care. Most people don't tend to pet them either. 

Maybe we need to look into this fungus a bit closer. Looks interesting.

They're practically extinct in Britain as are wild rabbits (due to an ebola like rabbit haemorrhagic fever)
