NASA re-established contact with Voyager 2 after 8 months
By updating the receiver and increasing its sensitivity.

NASA re-established contact with Voyager 2 after 8 months
We could have sent NCC-1701 out there to fix her up and get her to reconnect with the Creator.

The receiver update was on the Deep Space Network, not the spacecraft, just to be clear. We have software defined radios (for some applications) now, but didn't back then.
