The great icons of decency are disappearing, which is all natural, except the new icons stand not for decency but regression, chaos, ignorance, sanctimony and pettiness. 
Kissinger was far too complex a personality to be fully encapsulated in a forum post. He wasn't an angel and he wasn't a devil. In fact, he reminded me of a movie review I saw one time for "Patton." That said, as I recall, "the film depicts honestly the fact that Patton was the sort of fascistic general that democracies sometimes need to win wars."
Kissinger may have advised Nixon to turn up the heat or turn down the heat..... but the decision was always Nixon's.
