I said it before and I'll say it again: The Catholic Church is the most morally and politically corrupt organization on the planet.  Angry

Quote:The Catholic Church raked in $1.4 billion in coronavirus loans

Quote:Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and other entities made extensive use of a loophole in the feds’ Paycheck Protection Program to snag at least 3,500 forgivable loans as the pandemic scuttled worship services across the country, an Associated Press review found.

Some $200 million went to roughly 40 dioceses that have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to victims of sexual abuse in recent years — including the Archdiocese of New York, which got at least $28 million for its executive offices while its iconic St. Patrick’s Cathedral received at least $1 million, according to the Friday report.

So, I already knew one of my teachers at my Catholic high school in Toledo was a child molester (although of course I didn't learn that little fact until 20 years or so after my graduation).  I have just today learned that one of my favorite teachers (to the point where I still use a turn of phrase he used in algebra class) was as well.

I would dearly love to hit the lottery, just so that when my alma mater came begging for money, I could tell them to go fuck themselves, and precisely why they could go fuck themselves.

I didn't have to win any money for my Catholic alma mater to hit me up for donations. All that was necessary was to be a member of the alumni. I successfully avoided the school's attention for quite a few years after I moved out of my parents' house in 1976, but a woman I had attended classes with did me the "favor" of sending them my address so I'd receive their mailings. It wasn't long before I was getting several begging letters annually, telling me it was my duty to support the school and church  with regular contributions. I called their office several times, demanding that they remove me from their mailing list. It finally took a letter from my lawyer and threat of a lawsuit to make them cease and desist. So, in a way, I did tell them to go fuck themselves.  Nod

Quote:Ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick accused of running sex ring from NJ beach house

Disgraced ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick allegedly ran a sex ring out of his New Jersey beach house — where one victim claims he was molested by him and three other priests, according to a new lawsuit.
The victim — “Doe 14” — says the alleged abuse began when he was 14 during overnight stays at McCarrick’s Sea Girt home in 1982.
“In the night, with the assistance of others, McCarrick would creep into this kid’s bed and engage in criminal sexual assault of him, whispering, ‘It is OK,'” Jeff Anderson, the attorney for the now-53-year-old victim, said at a Wednesday.

Other priests allegedly served as part of a “crew” of procurers of young boys for then-Bishop McCarrick, who “assigned sleeping arrangements, choosing his victims from the boys, seminarians and clerics present at the beach house,” the suit says.

I have no doubt that Trumpolini will "wish him well" also.

I read this post just after my wife and I finished watching the movie, Spotlight about the Boston Globe breaking one of the first Catholic pedo stories in 2002, the one that ultimately brought down Cardinal Law (well, sort of, but not really).

And here we are 20 years later, and the system is still cranking out pedos, almost unabated it seems.

My wife is very liberal, but desperately wants the death penalty for child molesters. I believe her when she says she would murder anyone with her bare hands that ever molested her children.

I wouldn't quite say that myself.  I will say that had anyone laid a hand on my nieces, there's a non-zero chance I would have done something that requires plausible deniability.

It's interesting how things go. My wife and I were raised Catholic, and never had a problem with the church, like molestation. (Well, before I realized that I was atheist) By the same token, we volunteered for things, and were Boy Scout leaders for years (in my case, 15 years). We were almost ALWAYS present when our sons were on an outing. Not helicopters, just in the vicinity/campground. There is a policy in the BSA for "two-deep leadership". The chances of two pedophiles as leaders on a camping trip or other outing is extremely low. I joined one Boy Scout troop as a leader when my son joined them, but the casual attitude towards having two trained leaders present (or not) led me to take him elsewhere. I'm not saying that the rest of the leadership had pedophilia on their minds, but that they should support the policy or be gone. That policy is there for a reason, though in retrospect it seems that the BSA was playing "shut-eye chaperone" with the molesters, and now they're in deep Bandini with all those lawsuits. Got a problem with a Scoutmaster abusing boys? Send him to jail, don't defend him, or worse, bury the evidence.  hobo

I can think of more than a few abusive Catholic nuns who ought to be on that list too.  Dodgy

Another pervert priest who was picked to be a bishop and who sees his past come back to haunt him

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/07/us/bi...abuse.html

Quote:Bishop-Elect Resigns After Being Accused of Sexually Abusing a Minor

Father Michel J. Mulloy was chosen by Pope Francis to lead the Diocese of Duluth, Minn., but then an allegation from the 1980s surfaced, church officials said.

Pope Francis on Monday accepted the resignation of a priest whom he had chosen to become the bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese in Duluth, Minn., after a nearly 40-year-old allegation of sexual abuse of a minor emerged against the clergyman, church officials said.

Way to pick 'em, Frankie.

I just opened a letter from a law firm in upstate New York, where my high school is located. They are looking for abuse victims of a priest that worked at my high school during the years I attended. I wasn't a victim and I don't know directly of anyone else that was. As far as I know, he preyed on boys. I heard about the investigation on this particular priest awhile ago so it's not "news". But it could certainly be news to others out there.
I hope his victims ultimately get some kind of peace.

Quote:Priest recorded having group sex on altar of Pearl River church, police say; 3 arrested

Quote:The lights inside Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Pearl River were on later than usual on Sept. 30, so a passerby stopped to take a closer look.

Peering inside, the onlooker saw the small parish's pastor half-naked having sex with two women on the altar, according to court documents. The women were dressed in corsets and high-heeled boots. There were sex toys and stage lighting. And a mobile phone was mounted on a tripod, recording it all.

The eyewitness took a video and called the Pearl River police, who arrived at the church and viewed that recording. Officers then arrested the Rev. Travis Clark, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul since 2019, on obscenity charges.

Doubtlessly the best use that altar has ever been put to!
