This is Forest, later known as Gabe and finally called Jack.



One of our volunteers was hiking in the woods in northern Arizona and literally stumbled across him, injured and starving.  He had a badly swollen ankle on his right front leg and could barely walk.  He looked like what is called an English Cream Golden and she wasn't going to leave him there to die in any case so she called in for instructions.  We told her to bring him to an emergency vet we used in Scottsdale.  They carried him to their car which was quite a trick as he was a 70 pound dog.  In late afternoon they got him there, they x-rayed his leg and determined there was no fracture just a really bad sprain.  Pain meds were prescribed and they put him on IVs to get him back to normal blood sugar levels.

We tried putting him in 3 different homes but he never wanted to go in the house.  Finally we figured out at the last one that he didn't like being forced into a house so we brought him in the backyard first and sat outside with him for a half hour while he explored.  His new foster, guy looked like an ex-weight lifter, said he would just pick him up and carry him in at night instead of pulling him on the leash.  That did the trick.  He is now renamed, adopted, and when I saw him at a vet appointment on Halloween was wearing that stupid turtle costume.  He did not seem overly pleased with the costume but all the staff at the animal hospital came out to hug him and he liked that. 

Amazing story and just dumb luck that we found him when we did.
