I didn't claim that anyone here made the argument. I was simply pasting some related material from my large collection of my own writings.

I see. And what inscrutable purpose were you attempting to serve by doing so?

None. Just posting some related info. about the Bible and coins. If I could go delete it, I'd be happy to, if it is annoying folks so much, but I can't -- or so it seems.

At least coins are real - and very useful archaeologically for dating purposes.

That's more than I can say for your imaginary godboy.

Atheist charge: According to Matthew 26:15, the chief priests gave “thirty pieces of silver” to Judas. But how is that possible, since there were no silver coins used as currency in Jesus’ time, and there had not been any for about 300 years?

It is defined in the Greek as: a silverling (i.e. drachma or shekel).

Quite right, Free.  We have records of wage rates showing that Athenian citizens were paid one drachma per day while they were rowing the triremes during the Pelopennesian War in the late 5th century BCE.

I'm sure you have heard the suggestion that one of the reasons for the Athenian's stupid invasion of Syracuse after the Peace of Nicias was that the good and peaceful citizens of Athens were not only bored witn no boats to row they were also tired  of not getting paid.  A new war became a necessity for them economically which was, perhaps, the earliest expression of the military-industrial complex!

Mmmmyyeeeesss ... for people who don't really do the god thing, pages of words certainly pile up.  Come to think of it, that could be part of the problem. Consider
It's the ubiquity of related subject matter, all trying to establish, prove/disprove, connect dots, both real and imagined.  There's a centuries high pile of bits & bobs - fantasy material for a bedtime story, written for a civilization perpetually on the eve of self destruction. The never ending soap opera of the almighty, shoe wearing ape.

Dunno
I guess I got nothing else to do.  Popcorn

But you're doing it well.

All that verbiage they produce is mainly to cover up their own insecurities about a very silly story in the 21st century.

You mean, Mark 14!

Quote:49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the scriptures be fulfilled.” 50 And they all forsook him, and fled. 51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body; and they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.

Probably written for a Greek audience.  The Greeks were no where near as uptight as the jews about that stuff!

Depends on whether you believe in the perpetual virginity of mary, lol. He had cousins or non literal family, according to "the consensus of scholars"....(because of perpetual virginity).

It's just Jerry slipping into manic-depressive mode.  He's been getting better lately but it is never a smooth upward climb!

I have pondered this question myself, not so much in regards to Philo who died before the revolt began, but definitely in the case of Josephus and Tacitus.  Josephus in The Jewish War discusses the various jewish groups in the run up to the war.  Tacitus despite discussing the war never mentions xtians except in the dubious case of Nero's supposed persecution of them  which would have happened in Rome, if it happened anywhere, and not Judaea.  In The Histories, he specifically discusses the mythological origin of the Jews but again, xtians are merely given an oblique reference back the the supposed persecution in Annales.  Well, this is an interesting video and is broken in to chapters to be stopped and restarted for those who can't sit still for 35 minutes.
