Small Things That Make You Smile 2.0
I was biking today and looked behind me and there, on my shoulder (possibly because I was wearing a bright yellow T shirt... a jersey, if you will, like I'm doing the Tour de Sofia-adjacent-Western Bulgaria  Big Grin ), was a tiny ladybug, just catching a ride  Sun

It was extremely windy and I figured it can't really take off while I was biking, so I stopped and gently took it from my shoulder and it quickly crawled to the tip of my finger and took off.

Why *are* ladybugs so frigging cute?!

As a volunteer at a hospital (I mainly do patient transport), I always smile inwardly when the patient thanks his or her nurse.  In my opinion, it is a beautiful thing to hear a patient express his or her appreciation for the staff members (e.g., nurses, PCTs, doctors, etc.) and the wonderful work that they do.

On one occasion, after a random bystander assisted me with helping a patient into the patient's car (his lower leg was in a cast due to it being shattered), the bystander made a peace sign with his fingers, and then we parted ways as the patient's daughter was getting settled in the car to take him (the patient) home.  Naturally, this event and others like it have also caused me to smile inwardly and to appreciate the moments when humanity's gentler, more compassionate qualities are in full operation.

Set new personal deadlifting record. At 132kg it is not really impressive [my 17 yeard old nephew is lifting way more] but with boosted thumb affecting my grip strength I take what I can.

I cherish ladybugs. They are pretty. But they and their larvae are also voracious aphid eaters and I appreciate that. I keep my yard generally organic, so I have them around...

My phone's camera's AI regularly "recognises" my kitten as a...

... panda Giggle

Also, this comparison between one of the first pictures I took after I found him by the side of the road and a recent one:

One of my most favorite patients was in the ER last night.
She's 96. Such a great lady. The matriarch of a huge German family, only some of whom are in the US.

They care for her and watch over her very diligently. We see them and know them, .. and they bring treats for the staff, when she comes in.
She always says, very formally when we go in to see her : "Hello, my name is Chlo....de, but you may call me 'Cookie' ". Big Grin
Even the most dour/crabby of us have to smile. And they do bring cookies.

I really like ^that^ one. Smile
It's body has an exaggerated bulbousness and it's spots are minimally placed, making it simultaneously hilarious & elegantly stylish. Shy

And here's another one that's all sports  Big Grin

(I need a better phone... and I might finally get one, esp. if I go travelling next year which I'm thinking about but there's also the cats to think of...)

Here's some more cool bugs (I'm pretty sure the first picture got reported on instagram because I dared say that religious leaders have no right to pass moral judgement on anyone (was after one of popey's viler statements). It wasn't removed but it was shadowbanned. Good to know I managed to annoy some religious freak  Whistling )

Another small thing that made me smile yesterday was this cookie. They are supposed to be smiley faces but when I got one from the box, this is what it looked like. You and me both, cookie, you and me both  hobo

I keep hitting the "like" button ... Only to realize I've read something a few days or, even months previous. The action removes my name from the "likes list" so, I quickly hit it again.
Dodgy
I'm amused by how perturbed I am to see my name now at the very end - as if I'm finally jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm on a ladybug roll  Sun

I also tried photographing these last year's rosehips but my phone's struggles with... well, what doesn't it struggle ith Dodgy

But what an interesting colour, so different from the normal colour of rosehips

A fresh rosehip for comparison:

I'm also rather infatuated with this flower, wild carrot or Queen Anne's lace (and yeah, carrots were domesticated from it). It has a cheerful blossom that attracts all sorts of bugs and then its fruit is so mesmerising...

The simplest, most stylised origami I have ever folded. Literally just two folds and voila - a Santa. (don't mind the photo, I didn't put much effort into it)

Some ignoramus telling me that I should pick up a book about III Reich. I mean I am waiting for translation of Peter Longerich newest books but I doubt that this was intention of idiot telling me to pick up a book.

Ok, so President John Tyler, our 10th president, was born in 1790... the seventeen hundreds! When he was approx 63yo, in 1853, he fathered a son, Lyon Gardiner Tyler Sr.
Next, when Lyon Gardiner Tyler Sr was approx 75yo, in 1928, he fathered a son, Harrison Ruffin Tyler, who is STILL ALIVE TODAY, at 95yo.
So Harrison Ruffin Tyler is alive, and he's the grandson of a former US president born in the 1700s, in 1790, only about 14 years after the declaration of independence.

Watching goldfinches at the thistle feeder on a cold day.

Watching some sparrows grabbing up the fallen seeds.

Watching any bird at the suet feeders.

Going out in the cold to fill the sunflower seed feeder.

Reading the daily newspaper while eating lunch.  Especially reading the op-eds and the comics.

Watching TV after dinner with a cat or sometimes 2, with another behind me on the top of the chair.

Sleeping with cats on either side of me at night.

Watching the Fall-planted pansies recover from planting and beginning to start some blooms.

Saw many stars in the sky recently.  That is rare here.  Usually, it is just a few of the brightest or a planet.

Saw a fireball cross the sky and suddenly burn out.  Or maybe it was spacecraft debris.  Hard to tell.

Seeing an old origin show.  Saw the original Lone Ranger episode last night.

Hearing a song on the radio I had forgotten about.

Making a meal I hadn't thought about for years bcause I saw something similar in the newspaper Food Section..
