Artemis 2 mission
I see that there was a glitch,..........

Artemis 2 mission specialist Christina Koch noted an issue starting up part of the Orion capsule's toilet — which NASA calls the Universal Waste Management System — that deals with urine collection.

"The toilet fan is reported to be jammed," NASA spokesperson Gary Jordan said during live mission commentary. "Now the ground teams are coming up with instructions on how to get into the fan and clear that area to revive the toilet for the mission."

Norm Knight, NASA's director of flight operations, told reporters here at the Kennedy Space Center that the malfunction was due to a controller issue on the toilet. But NASA confirmed astronauts could still use the space commode to poop, just not urinate, though engineers were working to restore it to full service.

"In the meantime they're getting their contingency — their backup waste management capabilities specifically for urine," Jordan said. "The fecal collection of the toilet, that specific capability, can still be used with the waste management system aboard Orion."

"Happy to report that toilet is go for use," Mission Control's Capcom Amy Dill radioed Koch. "We do recommend letting the system get to operating speed before donating fluid, and then letting it run a little bit after donation."

Reminds me of an episode in The Big Bang Theory. Toilet humor always good for a laugh,.......... unless I'm the repair man.

Artemis 2 mission
On the day of the Apollo moon landing, 21 July 1969, wind
gusts of up to 110km/h buffeted the Parkes radio telescope
as it sat in a sheep paddock in regional New South Wales.
It is meant to shut down when the winds hit 35km/h, but
the operators risked it all to help broadcast Neil Armstrong
walking on the moon.

The heavy lifting on Australia’s side of the Artemis II mission
will be done by the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex
(CDSCC), part of NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN), which is
run by the national science agency the CSIRO.

“And during the working hours for our site, our operators will
be the ones operating the entire network, regardless of who’s
tracking. We’ll be the primary communications point so the
astronauts can contact home, so we can contact them” CDSCC
education officer, Rhianna Lyons, said.

Artemis 2 mission
Artemis 2's Orion capsule conducted another engine burn in Earth orbit this morning (April 2), successfully raising its perigee, or closest point to our planet. The burn lasted 43 seconds and helped set Orion up for a bigger and more important operation later today — the translunar injection (TLI) burn, which will send the spacecraft and its four astronauts on a figure-eight path around the moon and back to Earth.

The TLI will occur at around 8:12 p.m. EDT (0012 GMT on April 3) and last about six minutes, if all goes according to plan.

This morning's maneuver was the second perigee-raising burn Orion has performed since launching yesterday (April 1). The capsule has also conducted one burn that raised its apogee, or farthest point from Earth.

What is it about American high tech and the toilets not working?

I know an aviation guy from 40 years ago who told me that the shitters didn't work right, even before the Navy was required to not blow shit over the side. He told me that if there were more than three people in the head, guys on either side of a newbie would flush, and the toilet he was sitting would overflow. Cute.

A lot of what is going on now is that the Navy isn't any longer allowed to just blow shit over the side. When I served, we did just that. You didn't want to fall overboard in port, and fishing was not allowed. Navy ports reeked, as a result. But some guys brought their kids on board and let them fish. Can't imagine eating that fish, unless one lived alongside "Shit River" in the Philippines.

I'd expect that, at sea, the Navy would still be allowed to blow shit over the side. Guess not.
Taking a break.

I can't imagine the leaking POLs from the ship would make seafood dining very tasty, either.

Release the Epstein (pedo)files. This "America Fuck Yeah!!!" POINTLESS "mission" is a pointless disgrace. Sure deflects the headlines though.

Artemis II mission....mission to accomplish what exactly? Deflecting attention from the obscene bloated hog FuckFace and his policies?

The Artemis mission was planned long before cadet bonespurs ascended to the presidency. Keep flinging feces...

Given that the Artemis II coverage seems to amount to a single blurb in the bottom right of CNN's front page, there's little basis for your complaint. By contrast, a single downed pilot has been garnering the headlines. But I'm not really surprised that you're complaining when somebody tries to do something meaningful.

It's a stress test for the delivery system and command module we've been dumping cash into.  Nasa's version of kicking the tires.

Seems like they're following the Apollo plan. Next launch I'd expect testing with the lander/docking.

The next mission is a test for the landers and suits in leo. A landing isn't planned until artemis 4 on 2028. They'll be delivering the first components of the esa orbital and attempting a weeklong surface mission at the lunar south pole.

To be fair she probably styles her hair in function of living on Earth not for her two week work related space journey.

I agree, but I've also seen her in braids. Even a cap would help. This is work after all, fashion often takes a back seat.

However, others have not reigned in their hair in the past. Must be a grumpy old coot thing I'm experiencing.
