Ordered my Dark Brandon t-shirt from the Biden-Harris campaign. I'm supposed to be getting a Nikki Haley '24 t-shirt as well.

Finding a Chick Tracts booklet on my car windshield thanks to Steve's minions. Always knew heaven and hell were a joke, this was more conformation.

I haven’t seen a new chick tract in ages.  I hear they are much less anti Catholic these days?

I'd have to read it again to look for catholic. Is this some kind of sadistic trick?  Hmm

Besides being ridiculous and using scare tactics, they also liked to condemn Mary worship, saints and the Eucharist. I’ve heard they don’t do that anymore.

I learned that I can watch the Roku channel on my computer. More stuff for me!

An off the charts display of northern lights last night. We were watching red and green curtains march down over the southern horizon. On top of the total eclipse last month it's been a good time for watching the sky!

Keep your eyes peeled tonight! This may keep going all weekend!

Rainy weather brought on a severe arthritis flareup in my left foot. It was swollen and so painful that I could hardly walk. I had little appetite and couldn't eat or prepare a proper meal. The attack ended abruptly this morning and the pain is gone.  walking-stick

Losing centimeter of my waistline while bulking. It's certainly possible in theory but I've never expected to see such in practice. Splendid day to be me I have to say.

My Walmart order arrived. I got lots of goodies, including three pints of ice cream -- salted caramel, birthday cake flavor, and triple-flavor sherbet.

The high point of my day was discovering a hidden gem of a café tucked away in an alley. The coffee was incredible, and the atmosphere felt like a cozy secret shared among friends. Definitely a place I'll return to!

I figured out where in my settings I can change the notes for Walmart's delivery drivers.

I had my annual physical and was pleasantly surprised that I had lost 6lbs. I wasn’t expecting it. My health, for my age is excellent and no change to my meds. I am going to get a referral to a pain specialist. I hat seeing a new doctor. Between having to list my entire medical history (I can’t even remember how long ago some of my surgeries were) and building trust in each other…well, I hate that but, I have to start somewhere!

My family medical history is rather vague to me. Mom&Dad never discussed such things, thinking they were were personal to them and really didn't affect me. I have no idea how my grandparents died. We know better about the importance of these things these days, but they are gone now and I can't ask. Mom went from Parkinson's at 86 and Dad died from dementia and just "old age" (94). That is about all I know.

Buy a digital scale. It's worth it to track your weight once a month on your wall calendar (and keep those). Get copies of your medical records and save them for your descendants.
My wall art is eclectic. It keeps me thinking...

My family history is easy peasy.  I was adopted at three days old so history really available.  It’s my own medical history that’s a nightmare.  I was in a car accident at 16 and had a spiral fracture of the femor, whiplash and bruises and road rash all over my body.  The fracture didn’t heal straight so I wound up with a limp and an end to my very athletic existence.  I’ve had so many surgeries directly and indirectly related to that and they never give me enough room to list them all.

On top of that, I have a low threshold for pain and I’m a hypermetabolizer of narcotics…they only work for a few hours instead of the 6 hrs. they should. So, I’ve been under prescribed on post op pain meds my whole life.  I’m now at the point that I will never have another surgery…of any kind.

I’m pathetic and this often comes across to doctors as being whiny, drug seeking or just plain not believed.  My family doctor has been my doctor for 30 years and he knows my issues (and that I’m not a drug addict) and is researching who’s best and will make sure the new doc knows my history.  They still make you fill out those medical history forms…I kind of want to walk in with a notebook they can use instead (hint:they won’t use it).  This is all what I hate…

Very nice. What did you make in the lab?

Nothing, unfortunately - it was a theory-only intro course.  If I take more chemistry, those courses all have labs.

My hubby and I went to the nursery today. I’m filling in my poorly decrepit perennial flower bed at the base of our front porch. A lot of hard work and it’s looking great now! This makes me very happy. The only purchases left are crocus bulbs in the fall so now I get to sit on my porch and enjoy it.

Did you pick up perennials for the flower bed, or annuals, or a mixture?

I'm working on perenial's also, zone 5, south facing and against the house, need to be heat tolerant. Have salvia, sedum and cone flower so far. Got any recommendations? I'm usually just a garden guy and new at this shit.

Determining that my new, four-quart stock pot will work well for me. It's too small for full-length spaghetti, but I use half-length, it works for Korean noodles, was only $15, and I'd have to get a considerably large pot for full-length spaghetti and linguine. I have 8 and 12 quart stock pots for longer pasta. It doesn't have insulated handles, but I'd have to pay a lot for that size with stay-cool handles.

The only annuals were a patch of yellow petunias.  It’s a place holder for my fall planting of bulbs but I didn’t want an empty spot all summer.  All the rest are perennials.  When we moved into this house almost 20 years ago, the previous owner (and builder) of the house had a lovely garden of perennials.  I continued taking care of them until a few years ago when my arthritis got to be too much…but, my husband retired last December and he’ll do the planting and weeding and I’ll do the watering and enjoying.  I knew there was a reason I kept him!  Chuckle

Mine is east facing which is perfect as the worst heat of the day is afternoons when it’s in shade.

There’s a ton of heat tolerant perennials.  My best recommendation is to decide if there’s colors you want and what height.  Obviously tall plants go towards the back and decreasing to the front.  I scketched out my bed on paper and placed circles labeled with my current flowers.  My color scheme is white yellow and purple and I stick to those colors only…that’s just my preference…I have a driveway lines with a multitude of colors there.

Take your rough sketch to a real nursery and ask the to show you heat tolerant and final height plants (perennials, obviously).  You may pay a few more bucks for nursery plants but they’re usually guaranteed to establish if planted correctly and they are healthier and pre fertilized to take root.  Worth every penny.  You might take some pictures on your phone, too, so they can see what’s there already.  Their knowledge is valuable!
