Now we know when the first stars in the universe switched on
All you need for building a scope (or TV for that matter) with a tube, is a magnetic field strong enough to achieve such (horizontal) deflections. I have used scopes far beyond this limit, but they already were digital ones without tubes.

We also have lasers strong enough (and with optics to fucus them) to make this experiment with the Moon. We even have the reflectors from the Apollo missions to make it easier (they are currently used to measure the rate at which the Moon receeds from Earth).

You can expand this to pointing your lasser to alpha Centauri, 4ly away. Its easy to make a spot move with INSANE speed, we just dont have (currently) the tech to build such lasers so we could actzually observe the spot.

You could also point your laser across the whole universe..... Whistling
