Then there was a war in Heaven and "God" lost. Satan then rewrote the history so that he had always been "God" and had won the war in Heaven.

Why did god create Satan?
As with many things in the Torah/Bible, the angels came straight out of Babylon.
There were even 2 of these guys (supposedly) on the cover of the Arc. They are virtually the same images as the Babylonian ones, which were and are all over the place. It's known as "syncretism" ... in academia. See "The Origins of Satan", Dr. Elaine Pagels, Princeton. The borrowing of mythological ideas. It's still very evident. The angels were the messengers of the god, El. Micha-el, Rapha-el, Uri-el, Gabri-el. You get the drift. I think it was the Christians who mangled the Greek word for the "day star", and called him "Lucifer". "Ante luciferum, genuite", (Latin) "Before the daystar, I have begotten thee" comes from Isaiah I think. The word "satan" was not a proper name. A "satan" was an "adversary"/"opponent". They had to explain evil some how.

It's convenient to have someone to blame.

I've always maintained Satan got a bum rap in the bible. I mean he killed like ten people god killed ~2,300,000 and that figure we have numbers for, fuck knows how many died in the Fludde.
For the same reason that Siegel and Schuster created Lex Luthor. Superman needed a worthy opponent.

Whaaaa, god created Satan? I always thought Satan created god!
Does Satan look like the rest of the angels?

He misspelled "Santa". Even God has typos.

Q: Why did god cause evil, celebrate evil, cherish evil?

If I recall correctly in Artur Sandauer* retelling of the story god simultaneously lost and won the bet. Won cause Job remained faithful and yet lost because he was clearly moral midget, too small minded to comprehend anything beyond simple-minded obedience. For added giggles satan looked like classic detective from noir novels. *Story can be found in God, Satan, Messiah ... and?
