Too bad Musk wasn't aboard.

Then there's this:

Quote:Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's space company has blasted its first rocket into orbit in a bid to challenge the dominance of Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The New Glenn rocket launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 02:02 local time (07:02 GMT).

It firmly pits the world's two richest men against each other in a commercial space race, vying to fly bigger and more powerful rockets.

Both want to populate the skies with more satellites, run private space stations, and provide transport for regular trips by people to the Moon.

"Congratulations on reaching orbit on the first attempt!" Musk wrote in a post to Bezos on X.

Dave Limp, CEO of Bezos's space company Blue Origin, said he was "incredibly proud".

"We'll learn a lot from today and try again at our next launch this spring," he added.

Bezos's team overcame technical barriers that caused delays earlier this week when ice formation halted a launch.

Blue Origin's employees and crowds gathered near Cape Canaveral cheered as the 98 meters-high rocket hurtled into orbit.

But the company failed to land New Glenn's main rocket engine, or booster, onto a platform in the Atlantic Ocean.

It had hoped that the booster would be reusable for future launches but after about 20 minutes of flight, the company confirmed it had lost the engine.

I'm all for space exploration, but I'm glad that its privatization is facing issues.

As long as they don't demand bailouts from their new pal, Fuckface.

Musk and his cohort of super-rich toy boys MUST
be prohibited
from sending any further, potential
space junk into permanent orbit our upper atmosphere.

There are currently about 2,000 active satellites
orbiting Earth, there are also 3,000 "dead" ones
littering space. What's more, there are around
34,000 pieces of space junk bigger than 10cm
(4 inches) in size and millions of smaller pieces
that could nonetheless prove disastrous if they
hit something else—or the surface of the Earth
with potential human fatalities.

In 1978, NASA scientist Donald Kessler said that
if there was too much space junk in orbit, it could
result in a chain reaction where more and more
objects collide and create new space junk in the
process, to the point where Earth's orbit became
unusable.  This situation would be extreme, but
some scientists are concerned that a variant of this
could be a problem one day.

I'm in favor of shooting billionaires into space.

Needs another rocket with the chump shoveling money into it. Captioned, "Uranus".

Preferably, into the sun.

Although it might be more fun to watch Musk slowly starve to death on Mars.

Either works for me.

I vote Elon test fly the first trip to Mars. Now!
