It seems where these dress-wearing perverts go they have to fuck with the kids.  This time:  Portugal.

Quote:More than 4,800 individuals may have been victims of child sex abuse in the Portuguese Catholic Church and 512 alleged victims have already come forward with their stories, an expert panel looking into historic abuse in the church said Monday.

Senior Portuguese church officials had previously claimed that only a handful of cases had occurred.

So when an insurance company sues the fucking church who do you root for?

Given the choice, I'd vote for the insurance company. But it's not for me to decide, it's for the courts.

Have both sides ever lost a law suit?

Quote:The following day at a news conference, Kevin Eckery, the diocese's director of media and community relations, told reporters that the claims could cost the diocese $550 million.

Those statements were made without consulting with the insurance company, violating the "duty to cooperate" under the policy and "effectively placed an unreasonable baseline on the value on the potential settlement value of these claims," according to the lawsuit.

Why don't the insurance companies tell the church: We cover stained glass windows, boiler leaks, lightning strikes and the vicar's car. Child rape? You can fuck right off!
But then look at it another way:
You want us to cover you for what? Do you have any idea how much this will cost you in premiums?
We are the Catholic church, we can afford it.

As of 2021 there were 73.2 million Catholics in the US. Take a conservative figure and say only 10% of them attend church on Sundays, the average collection plate donation seems to be ~$10. That's 73 million dollars every Sunday, nearly 4 billion dollars a year and that's just the collection plates.

Fucking right they can afford it.

You can get insurance for nearly everything. Not that I've tried odd ones, but I have read about really weird ones a few times. Space launches are insurable, institutions and companies are insured against sex-crime legal decisions, you can probably get insured against losing a job for cause. I would suspect you can get insured against nuclear war damages (not sure how you would collect).

Loved the collection-plate estimate point. But the value of insurance depends on the likelihood of a claim vs the cost of premiums. If you feel immune to severe monetary penalties, then the value of insurance is minimal. The major churches have so much money that they got from poor desperate people afraid of Hell that much of it should be returned. And the fairest way to do that is to recognize that Churches are really For-Profit businesses and should be taxed like any other (and most business are under-taxed).

TAX THE CHURCHES!

Just think what the world would be like if kiddy-diddlers got a shiv jailed instead of a pass because of an authoritarian affiliation. My dad was a violent man, and even if the teachers at the local elementary were legally allowed to inflict corporal punishment on his children, and he threatened them with physical violence backed them into a closet and choked them if they did, I shudder to think what would have happened to a priest if he had done something to one of us. We were poor enough, and having a dad in prison would have only made it worse. I'm still amazed that the school district never reported that.

That is a difficult post to respond to. Choosing between different forms of violence is hard to discuss. I see a lot of anger. It may be justified. But the violence of your Dad really isn't. There are legal remedies for such things. And there are various kinds of therapy for a violent Dad. I just can't support the actions or possible ones that you ascribed.

I don't ascribe to that kind of violence, I'm just reporting about the way my dad was.

I completely understand that you don't personally ascribe to that kind of violence. But you are suffering the consequences of it. It might help to discuss this with a professional.

You brought up the subject. That means it concerns/bothers you. I understand that. Talking to a professional might help. Or you can just continue the obvious distress. My thoughts to you either way.

Did they make this fucker a saint, yet?

https://www.france24.com/en/europe/20230306-pope-john-paul-ii-covered-up-child-abuse-as-cardinal

Quote:Pope John Paul II covered up child abuse as cardinal in Poland, says report

The late Polish pope John Paul II knew about child abuse in Poland's Catholic church years before becoming pontiff and helped cover it up, private broadcaster TVN reported Sunday.

Michal Gutowski, the investigator behind the broadcast, said that Karol Wojtyla, as he then was, knew of cases of paedophile priests within the church while still a cardinal in Krakow.
He transferred the priests to other dioceses -- one as far away as Austria -- to ensure no scandal ensued, he said.
Wojtyla, who was pope for 27 years from 1978 until his death in 2005, wrote a letter of recommendation for a priest accused of abuse to Vienna cardinal Franz Koenig, without mentioning the accusations, says Gutowski.
During his investigation, Gutowski says he spoke to victims of paedophile priests, their families and former church diocese employees.
He cites documents from the former Communist-eraSB secret police and rare church documents to which he managed to get access.
But Gutowski said the Krakow diocese had refused him access to its own documentary archives.
The Polish church has in the past refused to provide documents to the judiciary or a public commission of enquiry investigating cases of church abuse of minors.

The fish stinks from the head down!

RE: Damned Catholics - carusmm - 03-06-2023

Celibacy in the priesthood is a mediaeval invention. It's a means of control but it doesn't stop priests from molesting kids. For that, you'd need faith.

RE: Damned Catholics - Minimalist - 04-05-2023

And "Maryland" is a small state!

What is needed is a prosecutor who brings RICO charges against the whole fucking criminal edifice which is the catholick church and all their fucking pervert priests and enablers.

https://www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov/news%20documents/OAG_redacted_Report_on_Child_Sexual_Abuse.pdf

Quote:The incontrovertible history uncovered by this investigation is one of pervasive and
persistent abuse by priests and other Archdiocese personnel. It is also a history of repeated
dismissal or cover up of that abuse by the Catholic Church hierarchy. While every victim’s story
is unique, together they reveal themes and behaviors typical of adults who sexually abuse children,
and of those who enable abuse by concealing it. What was consistent throughout was the absolute
authority and power these abusive priests and church leadership held over victims, their families,
and their communities.

The report is 463 pages long and it only goes back to the 1940's!

Not a bit surprising!

Quote:Sean Baba, 29, of Portland. Baba was working as the Director of Music Ministry at St. Pius X Church and School in the Cedar Mill community. The church and school were notified of his arrest and have fully cooperated with the investigation.

Yeah, yeah....wait until it comes time to write the check and then you'll see the pervert catholick bastards disappear.

Quote:Philly archdiocese accused of covering up sex abuse complaints against priest who allegedly found a new victim in Nashville

Quote:PHILADELPHIA — The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia is facing new accusations that it covered-up sexual misconduct, this time involving a former priest who allegedly forced himself on multiple women and told them the unwanted encounters were “special trials” ordained by God.
In court filings this week, a 27-year-old woman said church officials’ failure to disclose previous complaints against the Rev. Kevin Barry McGoldrick enabled abuse she endured after he was transferred from Philadelphia to Nashville in 2013.
Even after the Philadelphia archdiocese had substantiated her claims that McGoldrick had plied her with bourbon and then sexually assaulted her while he was serving as a college chaplain in Tennessee, she said, church officials here still refused to acknowledge they’d received reports years earlier of his involvement in similar misconduct.

At least one senior clergy member was among 15 people identified, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper reported.
The archbishop, Rainer Maria Woelki, said he had ordered an investigation that would deal with those responsible.

Well, it's a lot better they use porn than having them rape children. They have my blessings, go watch some porn.

Who said they didn't?  They simply didn't get caught doing that.

Yet.

Perhaps it was child porn? That's not quite as bad as physical contact, and yet...

https://www.rawstory.com/pariss-catholic-foreign-missions-society-under-fire-over-alleged-abuse/

Quote:Paris’s Catholic Foreign Missions Society under fire over alleged sexual abuse

Quote:The French Catholic Church is facing new accusations of a sexual abuse scandal within Paris’s Foreign Missions Society, an organization dedicated to spreading Christianity overseas. As a criminal investigation has been opened into accusations against three clergymen from the group, a FRANCE 24 investigation by journalists Karina Chabour and Julie Dungelhoeff sheds light on the allegations against the society.

Another scandal that the Catholic Church could have done without: three criminal inquiries have opened in France into two priests and one bishop accused of sexual abuse.
The three men accused are all from the Paris Foreign Missions Society (MEP), an organization founded in France in the 17th century to convert overseas populations in Asia to Catholicism. Today it claims to have 150 priests based in 14 countries across India, China, Japan and Southeast Asia.
Before the criminal inquiries were announced a FRANCE 24 team (in partnership with the Radio France investigations unit) was investigating the apostolic society to shed light on the inner workings of the prestigious institution suspected of covering up the acts of sexual predators working in its midst.
A series of scandals
The three criminal investigations now open in France concern two former missionaries in Japan, Father Philippe and Father Aymeric, as well as the bishop of La Rochelle, Georges Colomb, who is also the former superior general of the MEP.
They are respectively accused of rape, aggravated rape and attempted rape. They have not yet been charged with any crimes, and so are presumed innocent. Father Philippe and Georges Colomb deny the accusations against them. Father Aymeric did not respond to a request for comment made by FRANCE 24.

Meanwhile, as the pervs are busy perving, they're also putting out shit like this:

Why should anyone listen to an organization that can't keep its clergy from raping children?

For those like me who can't be fucked on disabling ad blockers and shit could you maybe quote the last paragraph?

RE: Damned Catholics - Cranky - 09-16-2023

Here ya go:

Quote:Despite the restrictions, the diocese said in a statement to Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer that every person is “welcome and invited to be a part of the Church.

“Each one of us brings our own struggles and questions, and the Church, like Christ, meets each one of us where we are,” the statement said. “It is our hope that this policy, in tandem with the pastoral and theological resources found on the diocese’s website, helps each person to live more fully in the truth of their identity as a son or daughter of God who is made, body and soul, in His image.”

This was, of course, after listing a bunch of anti-trans rules. Hypocrites.

RE: Damned Catholics - Cranky - 09-17-2023

I'll add: why should we take anti-transgenderism seriously from a bunch of old men running around in frilly robes?

There's more lace in this picture than in a Victoria's Secret catalogue.
