Its called "Bad Dürkheim Wurstmarkt" (sausage market) and dates back to 1417.
A village of 20k citizens (including a casino!) welcomes 6-700k visitors over the course of 1 week.
I probably have not seen a single beer while we were there.

On our way to the fest. To the left is a graduation tower

Looks like the wine version of the Octoberfest. Thankfully less crowded, the last Octoberfest I had opportunity to attend was so crowded that I looked from a distance and passed. It was super fun when I was a kid.

Never attended a beerfest.  Visited a couple wineries in California once.  Had a sample of a "green wine" on the tour but could never get it back home (shipping restrictions back in the 90s).  I just drink a couple glasses of "old vine zinfandel" with dinner these days.
