Not so sure. With the change in calendars in the 16th century it's hard to pinpoint certain dates to match our own.

That said ... Yesterday was the March Ides. On that day in 44 BCE, Julius Cesar was jumped in an alley and stabbed to death.

Yes, actually another of those people of whom it can be said that the only things we have written about him were by his enemies.

The populace never seems to have wavered in their support.  It was only the upper classes and that is because they were the ones who got hit up for money to run the empire.  Always dangerous to get between a rich motherfucker and his money no matter what century you live in.

Nero's the worst of these cases. He didn't start the fire, but rebuilt the city after it happened.
Herod the Great is another spectacular example of the pattern.
Today is a pretty striking day in history, with the biggest, single-day stock market drop ever.
Hopefully it holds that distinction beyond tomorrow.

Let's not get carried away. The Fed has no more ammunition in the locker other than printing more money, at this point. I think the depths are not yet plumbed.
