"Like" ain't always a good word.

"Like" ain't always a good word.
When someone posts something that is informative, interesting or WTF, I hit the "like" button.

But I can't click that sucker when they tell me their cat just died. This leaves me with the option of not replying or maybe saying something about how that's only one out of nine.

However, if "Like" was "Applaud"* then I could let the poster know I'd seen the post. Some people do the "sorry about that posts", some don't.

*"Applaud" as a suggestion. One of you smart fellers could come up with a better word.

I applaud you for telling us that your cat is dead.

Several good ideas. I mean, really, emotions are a range, not a single button.

Definitely need a "WTF?" button.

You start having all sorts of buttons and it waters down their value and impact.

Seriously though, Zilla, when's the last time you devoted any great deal of thought to what someone meant to say by liking your post? We get likes, we appreciate it. You're not writing War & Peace with emoji buttons.

Here is a novel concept but if "Like" doesn't really convey your feelings maybe just post a comment, this being a discussion forum after all.

Cool. But if you're posting from a cell phone velcro'd to the underside of a bedside table while you have your feet one foot higher than your head it's often simpler to communicate via a touch of a button.

If this is a problem for anyone I'll try to do better in the future.
