Chocolate is a candy, made from cocoa beans:

Chocolate, while the most common and certainly best known, is not the only product made from cocoa beans.

ETA: I guess you could eat the cocoa beans, or at least the pulp and seeds, I've been told their actually quite bitter and it's only after roasting and processing that they're palatable.
