Would you eat insects?

Would you eat insects?
Would you eat insects? Grasshoppers, worms, etc?

A number of cultures do. I would. I'm sure a few people here have.
My daughter's Mexican aunt talked a few weeks ago about collecting grasshoppers to eat when she was a kid.

I'm not sure many USians would be keen on it though. Maybe when all the cattle are gone and we're scrounging for seed corn it'll become acceptable to eat insects here.

There is in the universe only one true divide, one real binary, life and death. Either you are living or you are not. Everything else is molten, malleable.

Only as a last resort, as in for survival.

What if they taste good? Still only for survival?

I'm not brave enough to try it unless as a last resort.

I would be willing to try those Exo Protein bars made from crickets, but not sure I'd eat cooked insects unless it was necessary. Tongue

You mean now? Probably not.

If I was very hungry? Of course. The longest I've ever gone without food is 36hours. I had just reached the stage when the stomach starts to hurt,. Would have happily eaten a witchetty grub.

I suspect those days may not be as far away as we like to think . A staple for centuries I think in Mexico, and parts of SE Asia. Pretty sure the Chinese eat grubs and insects; this is a culture which eats anything whose "back faces heaven".Only two exceptions of which I'm aware "dog's heart and wolf's lung" , but I suspect that's just a folk tale. ;

Isn't there already lots of insect bits in the food most people eat anyway? Peanut butter, for instance. No, it's  not snacking on whole grasshoppers, but it still counts.

Pro tip: If you have to eat grubs, swallow them whole, don't chew them.

There are some companies now making meal/flour using insects.  I’m willing to try it, though not to cook with it myself.  I suspect we will all have no choice within a few years.

I went as far as chocolate made with ants. I figured you can't go wrong with chocolate. I was right.

I have and probably will again if given the chance. Like most, I don't like the large larval/grubs. I like insects fried the best.

And, as already mentioned, my guess is that all of us have eaten insect parts, we just didn't know.

There used to be a Federal regulation on how much cockroach could be included in any bottle of rum.

I would like to try them but I also would not like to try them, so basically, I'd like somebody to feed them to me without knowing.
