I have several tall cacti. Began as one plant. .  Perfect growing  conditions,  it reached about 30 feet. Then there was this storm and it fell over. I cut it into a lot of smaller pieces.. Gave some away, put a few upright around the yard. The biggest are now about 8-10 feet tall.

Didn't realise at the time that advanced cacti are very expensive. Could haves sold it to a local  nursery.

Great idea for a thread.  I don't grow many cactus but I do have some, including Cleistocactus strausii.  Which I've had in the ground probably twenty years.  In the beginning wet weather would result in falling towers.  But whenever one went over, the base would put out one or more new towers and the fallen tower would usually pot up too.  Weird thing about these cactus is that snails used to glide right up them.  They're taller than I am now.

Flowers are a little unusual too.

Ah, have a small aloe in a pot just outside the kitchen door, for burns.

PLUS another cactus -looking plant  which produces cone shaped orange flowers with a rim of yellow at the base, it's huge. I've always called it a red hot poker.--yup, that's right. Just checked on Google image.  Not in flower right now.Spring is just  starting . I have a whole fence of Jasmine which is just a  beginning  to flower,

I'll post some pics once I remember how. I seem to remember I need an image hosting site. I'll have a look in my apps.

Didn't find that word used to describe it on its wiki page.

Ice plants. Delosperma Cooperi. I ordered some stuff from Amazon and also ordered some of these seeds. These are drought resistant ground cover plants common in parts of California. These plants can take some light freezes or frost.

Purple shamrock. Sometime next week, I will be placing an order with Amazon. I might order some purple shamrock bulbs then.

I like those too.  They are so sculptural.  Popular names include "Love in a mist" and "Devil in a bush".  There are a lot of cultivars that have been selected for.  The black and white species, Nigella hispanics 'African Bride' is one of my favorites.

These are from a famous garden in my area which I've been able to visit a couple times when the more popular Nigella damascena was looking good.

Garish tropical carnivorous plants. Wonderfully bizarre and colorful, even lurid looking. Oh, to have a large greenhouse!
