Could an advanced alien civilization artificially restart the star creation process in the far future of the Universe, and prolong the existence of stars before heat death? I'm sure some sci fi author has already thought of that idea. Just stuff I think about in the morning, y'know.

I think that Stephen Baxter covered this in his "Vacuum Diagram" stories. Though iirc, that race wanted to make sure of an implosion instead of expansion to heat death.
