Quote:Dershowitz doubles down on his belief that statutory rape isn’t necessarily rape

One of the key takeaways of the New Yorker article on Trump-sympathetic ex-constitutional law professor Alan Dershowitz is his fixation on greater sympathy for men accused of sexual misconduct and in particular his belief that the age of consent should be lowered dramatically — and how he discussed this extensively in his classes to the point that many of his female students became uncomfortable.

Figures he's a pal of the Orange Shitgibbon.

He was once a respected constitutional law professor; he trained many liberal and liberal-leading legal minds, all of whom are going full Rudy Giuliani on him ("What the fuck happened to him?? He used to be competent and have integrity!") Lawrence Tribe and IIRC Seth Abramson were both trained by him, for example, and Jeffrey Toobin. The latter has said to his face when they were both CNN talking heads, WTF has happened to you anyway.

I think he was always this way and he knows his past crimes are all coming home to roost, so he's doing a sort of bizarre "pretend I'm arguing in court" effort to get out in front of it. High-powered lawyers often do this when caught red-handed at whatever.
