I barely even remember that The Passion even existed. Although to be fair, according to Google, it did bring a total of $611M domestically, which isn't too shabby. Considering Endgame has raked in $820M so far, although that's likely to continue to grow, if even slower that it did at opening.
So, who knows what this sequel might do...

I did kind of enjoy the first one.... especially the scenes where "jesus" got what was coming to him.

Can't imagine the sequel being better.

I am reluctant to believe all that money came from legit box office receipts given the number of churches that advertised it in their basement "cinemas".

I stand corrected. I didn't dig as far as I should.

$611M was *worldwide*. It was only $370M domestic.
Whereas Endgame was "only" $824M domestic (yes, it actually went up, when I checked earlier it was as of June 7, now it's as of June 8), but so far is $1.9B worldwide.

Isn't sort of mandatory if you are going to play Jesus being tortured for about an hour and a half?

They should have subpoenaed Helga the Whip Lady's client list.

I'm tired of the whole fantasy/sci-fi genre.

I think is going to be The Passion II Back to the Womb.

Which allows for the Prequel. Memoirs of Jehovah's Shmeckle.

Or....throw his body in a common pit the way the Romans traditionally did.   Or....here's another idea....Jesus survives the crucifixion, the Roman authorities hear about a convicted prisoner walking around blathering on about more stupid shit so Pilate sends out a squadron of Roman soldiers and kills him on the spot. Yes, it would be a short movie.

I think we atheists need to write the script for this movie.  It would be so much better.  It needs a romance between Mary Magdeline and Jesus.  Joseph gets the notion to make a nice new kitchen counter for Mary with the left over crucifixion wood.  (It has great rustic petina from years of use, and it's super cheap!)  It could have all sorts of crazy background characters like The Big Lebowski.  Nod

From the article:
"And Gibson will be hoping there’s still a demand for fierce, uncompromising accounts of Christianity."

Don't you mean "torture porn," Mr. Gibson? The "Christ" portrayed in the first one never would have survived to be crucified.

People like Gibson make the sequel, prequel, reboot and remake obsessed assholes in Hollywood look like fucking geniuses!
