Earlier this year, I finished updating, correcting, and adding almost 700 endnotes to my paper on climate change, the original version of which I posted in installments in this discussion.
It is now available as a Kindle download, if anyone is interested.

Seriously though, the fact that my work is available through Amazon is a function of how easy it is to self-publish now, rather than any expectation on my part that many people will read it. I did the work for myself, family, friends, and this forum. (I posted the first draft a bit at a time on pages 4 through 7 of this discussion.) It was a retirement project which I completed with endnotes because, as you made clear above, it was incomplete without them. If even a couple other people find it useful, all the better.
My sister recently created a Kindle book on building fireworks.

I know this isn't political memes, and the meme's not entirely accurate, but the basic idea is the same:

Luckily what I have written is a summary of what the experts say, the people who have dedicated their lives to the study of climate change, or of what other people say who themselves report on what the experts say. Their works are fully referenced as well, so anyone who is interested can dig as deep as they want to go.
The one advantage of what I have written is that it is a concise introduction.

The closest I found was this, from page 201 of the book Drawdown:
Quote:At present, converting nitrogen to ammonia for fertilizer requires 1.2 percent of the world's energy use. The process creates emissions from fossil fuel energy generation, and much of that nitrogen ends up in the sky as nitrous oxides -- a greenhouse gas 298 times more powerful than carbon dioxide over the course of a century. Or it leaches into groundwater and waterways, causing the overgrowth of algae and dead zones where marine life suffocates from a lack of oxygen.
But I don't think that answered your specific question.
Any water vapor created by ammonium nitrate chemical reactions would precipitate out within nine days as usual. Water vapor can only increase beyond the temporary with the increase in the global average surface temperature. So it all comes back to how much of the usual greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere.

Researchers discover new electrocatalyst for turning carbon dioxide into liquid fuel
https://phys.org/news/2020-08-electrocat...WLPbFG9LHU
Quote:Catalysts speed up chemical reactions and form the backbone of many industrial processes. For example, they are essential in transforming heavy oil into gasoline or jet fuel. Today, catalysts are involved in over 80 percent of all manufactured products.
A research team, led by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration with Northern Illinois University, has discovered a new electrocatalyst that converts carbon dioxide (CO2) and water into ethanol with very high energy efficiency, high selectivity for the desired final product and low cost. Ethanol is a particularly desirable commodity because it is an ingredient in nearly all U.S. gasoline and is widely used as an intermediate product in the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
"The process resulting from our catalyst would contribute to the circular carbon economy, which entails the reuse of carbon dioxide," said Di-Jia Liu, senior chemist in Argonne's Chemical Sciences and Engineering division and a UChicago CASE scientist in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago. This process would do so by electrochemically converting the CO2 emitted from industrial processes, such as fossil fuel power plants or alcohol fermentation plants, into valuable commodities at reasonable cost.

Fires are raging in the Amazon, despite a Brazil government ban. The destruction could be worse than last summer
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/08/07/ameri...index.html
Quote: The Brazilian government banned fires in the Amazon in mid-July -- yet there were far more fires last month than the year before, further degrading one of the world's most precious natural resources.
Last year's destructive fires caused international alarm, and this summer could be even worse, according to experts.
The Amazon is considered vital in slowing global warming, and it is home to uncountable species of fauna and flora. Roughly half the size of the United States, it is the largest rainforest on the planet.

India plans to fell ancient forest to create 40 new coalfields
Quote:Over the past decade, Umeshwar Singh Amra has witnessed his homeland descend into a battleground. The war being waged in Hasdeo Arand, a rich and biodiverse Indian forest, has pitted indigenous people, ancient trees, elephants and sloths against the might of bulldozers, trucks and hydraulic jacks, fighting with a single purpose: the extraction of coal.
Yet under a new “self-reliant India” by the prime minister, Narendra Modi, to boost the economy post-Covid-19 and reduce costly imports, 40 new coalfields in some of India’s most ecologically sensitive forests are to be opened up for commercial mining.
Among them are four huge blocks of Hasdeo Arand’s 420,000 acres of forest in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, which sit above an estimated 5bn tonnes of coal.
Funny how this idea of "self-reliance" always ends up fucking over other people.

Lockdown emissions fall will have 'no effect' on climate
Quote:The unprecedented fall in greenhouse gas emissions from lockdowns during the pandemic will do "nothing" to slow climate change without a lasting switch from fossil fuels, an international team of researchers said Friday.
Global emissions from the burning of coal, oil and gas could fall up to eight percent in 2020 after governments moved to confine billions of people to their homes in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19.
But absent a systemic change in how the world powers and feeds itself, experts warned in the study on Friday that the emissions saved during lockdown would be essentially meaningless.

Greenland's ice sheet has melted to a point of no return, according to new study
Quote: (CNN)Greenland's ice sheet has melted to a point of no return, and efforts to slow global warming will not stop it from disintegrating. That's according to a new study by researchers at Ohio State University.
"The ice sheet is now in this new dynamic state, where even if we went back to a climate that was more like what we had 20 or 30 years ago, we would still be pretty quickly losing mass," Ian Howat, co-author of the study and a professor at Ohio State University, said.
Greenland's ice sheet dumps more than 280 billion metric tons of melting ice into the ocean each year, making it the greatest single contributor to global sea level rise, according to Michalea King, the lead author of the study and researcher at Ohio State University.
The ice loss has been so massive in recent years, she said, that it has caused a measurable change in the gravitational field over Greenland.
This is bad. Very bad.

Ice Sheet Melting Is Perfectly in Line With Our Worst-Case Scenario, Scientists Warn
https://www.sciencealert.com/ice-sheet-m...tists-warn
Quote:The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, which hold enough frozen water to lift oceans 65 metres, are tracking the UN's worst-case scenarios for sea level rise, researchers said Monday, highlighting flaws in current climate change models.
Mass loss from 2007 to 2017 due to melt-water and crumbling ice aligned almost perfectly with the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change's (IPCC) most extreme forecasts, which see the two ice sheets adding up to 40 centimetres (nearly 16 inches) to global oceans by 2100, they reported in Nature Climate Change.
Such an increase would have a devastating impact worldwide, increasing the destructive power of storm surges and exposing coastal regions home to hundreds of millions of people to repeated and severe flooding.
That is nearly three times more than mid-range projections from the IPCC's last major Assessment Report in 2014, which predicts a 70-centimetre rise in sea level from all sources, including mountain glaciers and the expansion of ocean water as it warms.
Despite this clear mismatch between the observed reality of accelerating ice sheet disintegration and the models tracking those trends, a special IPCC report last year on the planet's frozen regions maintained the same end-of-century projections for Greenland, and allowed for only a small increase from Antarctica under the highest greenhouse gas emissions scenario.
"We need to come up with a new worst-case scenario for the ice sheets because they are already melting at a rate in line with our current one," lead author Thomas Slater, a researcher at the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling at the University of Leeds, told AFP.

I lobbied a lot for renewables thus I had to study hard the science.
My conclusion, and therefore I left the institute where I was working at the moment that was fonded by one of the founder of the German green party, is that they opposed ideologically nuclear power.
But now it is too late, even if we would start to roll out on nuclear plant per month until we close all the fossil baseload plants it is already too late, therefore the only thing we can do is adapt, fight climate change at local level, reduce our consumption (and no one is willing to do it, conversely poor countries wantto consume more).
WE need to adapt, adapt and adapt, ti reverse climate change is too late already

The Arctic is burning in a whole new way
Quote:"Zombie fires" and burning of fire-resistant vegetation are new features driving Arctic fires—with strong consequences for the global climate—warn international fire scientists in a commentary published in Nature Geoscience.
The 2020 Arctic wildfire season began two months early and was unprecedented in scope.
"It's not just the amount of burned area that is alarming," said Dr. Merritt Turetsky, a coauthor of the study who is a fire and permafrost ecologist at the University of Colorado Boulder. "There are other trends we noticed in the satellite data that tell us how the Arctic fire regime is changing and what this spells for our climate future."
The scientists contend that input and expertise of Indigenous and other local and communities is essential to understanding and managing this global issue.
The commentary identifies two new features of recent Arctic fires. The first is the prevalence of holdover fires, also called zombie fires. Fire from a previous growing season can smolder in carbon-rich peat underground over the winter, then re-ignite on the surface as soon as the weather warms in spring.
"We know little about the consequences of holdover fires in the Arctic," noted Turetsky, "except that they represent momentum in the climate system and can mean that severe fires in one year set the stage for more burning the next summer."
