Quote:A Growing Number of Catholic Schools Are Shutting Down Forever

About 150 Catholic schools have closed nationwide citing insurmountable financial pressures from the coronavirus pandemic.

Quote:As schools around the country debate how to reopen safely, a growing number of Catholic schools — already facing declining enrollments and donations from before the pandemic — are shutting down for good.
About 150 Catholic schools have closed, said Kathy Mears, the director of the National Catholic Educational Association, equal to about 2 percent of the 6,183 schools that were up and running last year. The number of closures is at least 50 percent higher this year than in previous years, Ms. Mears said.
In Boston, the archdiocese has had to close nine schools so far, and about two dozen others are on a “watch list,” said Thomas Carroll, superintendent of schools for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. In early July, the Archdiocese of New York announced that it would be closing 20 Catholic Schools.

Didn't I hear that parochial schools were eligible for emergency assistance during the pandemic?

You are correct.

Yes, anything that helps rid our state education systems of fantasy, superstitions, and ancient dogma
has to be good for society overall.  Here in Australia, our Catholic schools have to follow government
legislation as far as the basic curriculum goes, but of course the god-botherers can't resist overlaying
that with prayer sessions, biblical reading, moralising, and preaching.

The Catholic Church has established primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions in Australia.
As of 2018, one in five Australian students attend Catholic schools. There are around 1,700 Catholic schools
here, with more than 750,000 students enrolled, employing almost 60,000 teachers. 65.7% of students
are enrolled in government schools, 19.5% in Catholic schools, and 14.8% in independent schools.

Having said that though, I'm not all that sure that the K-12 kids of the 21st century are really sucking up
the Catholic bullshit any more—considering the major dilution of religion in Australian society, plus the
fact that the kids of today are far more 'connected' with the realities of the world than my generation was
more than 70 years ago.  Firstly TV, and now the WWW have opened up educational and informative sources
we couldn't even dream of back then.   Additionally, only 22% of our population is Catholic (and falling).
I'm a creationist;   I believe that man created God.
